Dreamland IX - #9

The prisoners and us vampires cleaned up the bodies of Tyrannus' troops, and burned them outside, with the prisoners taking weapons and armour of value to be sold. Normally I'd prevent them from looting, but these men had no lives and were taken captive from their lives and families, so I decided to turn a blind eye to the subject and discuss more important matters with Athran and Quexos. We had found the stockpile of explosives in the bottom of the fortress, and we placed them strategically around the supporting pillars of the fortress and hooked them all up to a single fuse. The prisoners and I gathered a safe distance from the fortress, and using one of the fallen trooper's bow and an arrow, I set the arrowhead aflame and sent the arrow at the explosives. The flaming arrow plunged right into the collection of fuses, and they lit, spreading to the seperate piles of explosives. The explosives around the outer supports of the fortress explided brightly, and the brightness of explosion hurt my eyes. I squinted as the explosions continued, and the wall crumbled. The explosives around the central portion of the fortress blew next, and the tower collapsed inward on itself. When it was all finished, all that remained of the fortress was a burning pile of rubble, and Tyrannus' claymore plunged into the ground ahead of it. The prisoners scattered, each heading in a different direction back to their former lives. Athran, Quexos and I stood watching the blaze, until Quexos spoke, being the voice of reason. "We should probably head back to the Order's base and report this to Luke." he said. I nodded, and Athran looked down at the ground. "I have been prisoner longer than any other. I have no place left in this world." Athran said quietly, and Quexos gave him a concerned glance. "It doesn't have to be that way. There's always a spot left open for you back in the Order." I said, and Athran looked up at me. "Thank you my friend." Athran said. I nodded, and focussed all of my energy into flying. I hadn't done so in a while, so it was a freeing experience. The trip back to the Order's mountain base didn't take long, and Luke was happy to see all of us. "I trust all went well?" he asked. I nodded. "Very well." Kathleen hugged me fiercely when she saw me, and I stood there for a few moments, and Luke, Athran or Quexos made no effort to disrupt us. It was then I had an odd feeling. A feeling like somehow, everything was coming to an end.
