Dreamland VII - #2

It took us four days to ride all the way north, stopping only to rest during the daytime. We tired to horses to a tree several kilometers away from the old castle, and continued on foot. The terrain was like a rocky field, so there was plenty of boulders and such to hide behind while approaching the castle. The castle was built into the base of a hill. It had a large rectangle building, that was about five levels tall. On the two corners not attatched to the hill were two tall towers. Each stood three levels taller than the castle itself, and there were four more towers, two on each side of the castle, built into the face of the hill as well. As I looked it over, I saw several men in long black cloaks wandering about, and I sensed a powerful vampire presence. "Do you sense that?" I asked Luke. "Yes...it appears to be coming from within the castle." he replied. I nodded. We quickly ran across the rocky field to the castle, putting our backs against the large stone walls and avoiding the fire light of torches placed along its wall. We quickly moved towards a large wooden gate, and when we reached it, it opened slowly. We froze, hoping not to be seen. A group of fifty men walked through the opened gate and away from the castle, heading south towards civilization. No doubt another raid, I thought to myself. Luke and I snukc through the gate before it closed, and once we were inside we crouched in the shadows. "It would be a bad idea to split up." he said, referring to the loss of the Knights who came here earlier. I nodded. "Then we'll have to stick together." I said silently. Luke nodded, and we crouched as we ran through the darkened corridors of the castle. The floors were polished marble, as we the walls. I was amazed that an old castle like this one still had quality construction and marble interior. Most old castles around Dreamland were all crumbled down, or made of solid grey rock. Luke and I continued through, until I heard something that made me freeze in my place. "Hey! Who're you?" I heard someone shout. I turned and saw a man in a black robe walking towards me, his sword drawn. His blade shimmered like Luke's although it wasn't green. "Busted." I said, before jumping to my feet and pulling my sword from its sheath. He swung at my neck, holding the hilt of his sword with both hands. I blocked the attack with ease, and backhanded him across the face, breaking his nose. He gripped his nose and fell backwards, screeching in pain. "Someone will have heard that." Luke said. "We should probably leave. And quick." I said, and we both started running towards the exit. Several guards came at us from the sides. Luke jumped into the air above them and completely avoided their attacks. I blocked a few sword jabs, and continued running until I fell into step beside Luke. "Split up now." Luke said as we neared a fork in the hall. He ran left, and I ran to the right. I ran as fast as I could, and the people following me faded completely from sight before I even thought about slowing down. When I did, I had reached the end of the corridor, and there was no way but back. I looked up, and saw a narrow ventilation shaft leading upwards. I heard angry shouts behind me, and I concentrated on flying. I flew upward through the shaft, and climbed out the hole in the roof that was at its end. When I got to the roof, I layed down and started crawling my way across the roof, until I got to its edge. I saw Luke with his back against to a tower, and he noticed me as well. "There he is!" I heard, and I rolled onto my back and saw several men in one of the towers pointing down at me. "Go Luke!" I shouted behind me at Luke. I turned slightly and saw him nod. He struck down two men who moved to oppose him, and leapt clear over the gate to the field, and continued running. I turned back to the guards and wondered how I would get out of this one.
