Dreamland V - #2

It had been more than a month since our last encounter with Kirk. We had run into several rouge groups of white armoured guards on our hike though, which we easily killed. But a few nights after, I felt a powerful presence approaching quickly. Naturally, I assumed it was Kirk, as it was approaching fast, and we were secluded deep in a vast forest. The only way something could possibly be approaching that fast was if it was flying above the trees. I wrapped my black cape around me and pulled my katana from its sheath. I knelt down on the side of the narrow path that Vincent and I followed and waited. Sure enough, I saw Kirk drift down from the tree tops and land softly where I had just been walking. He said something to himself, and started looking around. I knew he sensed me, but he just couldn't se me. "What's the matter Kirk?" I called out. I said it loud enough that my voice filled the clearing, not giving away my location. "Marius you fool! Come out and fight!" He growled, clenching his fists. "I see you Kirk...but you can't see me." I said, this time very softly. I quickly darted behind a tree, and Kirk's eyes quickly avertd to where I was just hiding. Kirk walked over to the spot and began searching around in it. He couldn't fine me, and he cursed loudly. I snuck up behind him, and tapped him on the shoulder with the flat side of my katana's blade. He spun to face me. "Too slow." I said quickly, before I slashed diagonally, catching him across the chest. I put enough power into the attack they he flew backwards through the air and nailed a tree. He pulled himself off of the ground and started levitating, before he started flying quickly towards me. I gripped the hilt of my katana tightly on both hands and hit him in the neck as he flew past me like a bat hitting a baseball. He spun in mid air for a moment, then came crashing down to the ground. I walked towards him, holding my katana tightly in my armoured hand, when he did something I didn't expect. He lashed out and kicked the sword from my hand, sending it flying into the brush. I saw Vincent make a move to shoot at Kirk, but he refrained. He knew this fight was mine and my own, so he decided to stay put. He jumped to his feet and tried to backhand me across the face. I blocked the attack with my armour covered arm, and punched him across the face with a blow that would've shattered the nose of a regular human. Kirk shook the blow off and tried to kick out at my face. I ducked, and as he put his kicking foot on the ground, I came up with a savage uppercut and sent him flying from the ground into another tree. "You're better than you were before." Kirk said, standing. "And you're worse." I said, charging at him. He sidestepped my attack, and made a grab at my cape, which was trailing behind me. I anticipated this, and spun around quickly, burying my fist into his cheek. The blow sent him reeling, and he struggled to stand straight. With a yell I jumped through the air at him, taking him around the waist and continuing forward until we both hit a tree. The thick tree snapped, and when Kirk stood he looked horrified. "What?" I asked, gritting my teeth. "You....flew!" Kirk said, his eyes widening. He realized he had lost his advantage over me, but I was confused. Had I actually flown? I know I jumped at him, but I did't feel like I was dropping. I had jumped a full ten meters away from that tree and flew straight as an arrow above the ground until we hit it. I stopped to ponder a moment, but Kirk used my confusion as an opportunity to run. He had lost his advantage over me and he knew it. Fear filled him, and I could feel his powerful presence fading as he flew away. I turned to Vincent, who emerged from his hiding place in the brush, with a look similar to Kirk's look of astonishment. "Did I just fly?" I asked, frowning. "Yes." Vincent said. I was amazed with myself. Had I been trying to fly so much that my brain figured out a way to do it? Had I been concentrating on learning how to fly so hard that I just figured out how? I wasn't sure, but I decided to continue my quest to find Lestat to get some answers.
