Dreamland VI - #5

Several nights passed, and I trained the students each night, and Luke handed out the new blades afterwards. They had been training on steel bladed swords for the duration of the few nights, but now they could train with the weapons they would be using from now on. Luke forged a yellowish blade for Skelis, an orange blade for Rilhat, a blue blade for Ildek, and a red blade for Quexos. Quexos was the only student in The Order that had actually requested a red blade. But it seemed to fit his dark, angry persona quite well. He showed promise as a swordsman too, defeating the other students in duels, and even going so far as to challenge me. I accepted, feeling it was the time to show him why the student was the student and why the master was the master. Holding his sword in one hand, he swung a quick low slice, that I easily blocked with my black blade. He quickly brought his blade up and snapped off a quick shot towards my neck, which I blocked as well. He gave me a nod, showing his respect for my skill. He attacked quickly, first high and then low. I blocked the high shot with ease and brought my blade down to block the low attack. He snapped off two more attacks: high and to my right. I blocked the high attack and went to block the right attack, but Quexos quickly spun and lunged at my left arm. I turned, gripped the hilt of my sword in two hands, and parried the attack, shoving his blade backwards. He staggered for a moment, and then stabbed outwards at my chest. I batted his blade aside, and he almost tumbled forward. I placed the tip of my blade under his chin. "Never attack out of anger." I said. He nodded and stood up straight, before assuming the fighting stance again. He lunged outward, and I batted aside his attack. He gripped the hilt of his sword tightly in two hands and swung low towards my shins. I jumped backwards and took my left hand away from the hilt, only holding it with the right. I decided to launch an attack of my own, to put him on the defensive to see how well he fought, and swung down at his head. He quickly brought his blade up to intercept mine, and I snapped off two more attacks, one high and one low, as he had before. He blocked the first low attack, but didn't move upward fast enough to block the high attack. Sensing he couldn't, I turned my blade slightly so the broad side of the narrow blade whacked him on the chest. I could see he was dissipointed with his defeat, so I gave him a friendly smack on the shoulder. "Good. I have fought like that in a while. We should try it again sometime." I said. He looked at me, glad I wasn't dissipointed with his defeat as well. "I would like that very much." he said, giving me a quick handshake. He put his blade into its sheath and backed away. Quexos and I trained for hours a night sometimes, before I had to turn my attention to the rest of the students, and he continued to get better and better every day, so at the end of the week I took him under my wing and promised to teach him everything I knew. And from then on, Quexos was my apprentice.
