Dreamland VI - #13

It took The Order near two weeks to return to its mountain base, but when we did, we couldn't be happier to be home. All of the Knights went to their rooms and rested, Luke went to his own room and started writing his family, and Kathleen and I returned to our room, where she got me to explain everything that had happened within the last month, and she began planning the wedding. Over the next three weeks all we did was plan, and when the big day arrived, we were the happiest couple ever. It wasn't a lengthy ceremony, but Kathleen and I went to our getaway home for a few weeks on honeymoon. When we returned, Luke informed us Quexos and a few other Knights had left for a few days to settle a dispute in the area. When they returned, Quexos was overjoyed to see me, and gave me a brotherly hug when he arrived. We talked for hours, and he shared the information about what happened with the dispute, and how he resolved it. Over the next few days, several of the Knights went out on assignment, and they kept coming to and from the base. When many of them returned, they returned with apprentices, almost doubling our numbers. Luke fashioned blades for them as he normally did, and was very pleased at the way The Order was going. "Things couldn't be better." He told me one night, as I cuddled with Kathleen. "When I fought in the Great War of Dreamland, I was convinced that in life, there would always be a battlefield." I said, completely off topic. Kathleen looked up at me, and I wrapped my arms tighter around her, draping my cloak over her as well. "And what convinced you otherwise?" Kathleen asked. I kissed her. "You. And The Order. You made me want to lay down my sword and stop fighting, and The Order has given me a way to do that. Maybe one day, when The Order has grown, we can convince others to not fight against their enemies, but instead compromise, and maybe in the future there won't have to be a battlefield." I said. Kathleen nodded and kissed me. I smiled at her. "Noble thoughts." Luke commented. I smiled. "Yes my friend. But the world out there is a rough place, full of violence. The Order sure has its work cut out for it."
