Dreamland XI - #8

They came at us without organization or hesitation, in a large horde of creatures. They lacked their leadership, which made me know we could acheive victory. If they came at us without leadership, they would have random uncoordinated attacks, but they'd be easier to drive back. We Horsemen charged out to meet them while the troopers stayed in their tight defensive formation in the entrance of the cave, and we craahed into them and we immediately riding them down or cutting them off. A swarm of black dust surrounded us as we charged through, resulting from the creatures we were destroying. War gripped his claymore tightly in his right hand and swung outward with it as we rode, and the long blade of the sword swept through three of the creatures, turning them all into large clouds of black dust. Pestilence fired his arrows faster than any other archer I had seen, including myself. The arrows arced through the air and came down on the creatures, destroying any one of them that the arrows landed on. Famine rode through them as usual, and the creatures around him simply burst into clouds of black dust. Death managed to stay upon his pale horse and swing his scythe with both hands, which surprised me. The blade of the scythe swept through any of the creatures that stood before him, and Death continued to ride through them, and showed no signs of stopping. I swung my steel blade around me, not even having to try to hit anything, for there were so many of the creatures around me that I could swing my sword with ease and not miss. Black clouds of dust surrounded me as I charged, even to the point where I couldn't see my enemies. I could still feel my sword hitting them before they burst into dust, so I knew I was being successful in killing thm off. Those creatures who made it past our charge attacked the defensive wall, and came upon it like water on rock. They chewed and clawed at the shield wall, but didn't have much luck trying to get through. The troopers with spears continued to stab out at the creatures, which killed off most of the creatures trying to claw through the shield wall. One creature made it through, as before, but was struck down by a sword wielding trooper. The troopers fought back, a few of them even daring to emerge from the shield wall to fight the small amount of creatures outside the wall. Due to their desire for a fight, the troopers who emerged from the shield wall fought well, and killed any of the creatures that came at them, inspiring many of their fellow troopers to do the same. In time our entire force of troopers was charging onto the battlefield with us Horsemen, and killed the creatures off as they came at them. The troopers ran in a large battallion, with the shield and spear wielding troopers in the forward ranks, with the sword wielding troopers behind them. The shields and spears deflected attacks from the creatures, and the swordsmen struck down anything that attacked from the sides or the flanks. In time we Horsemen destroyed the majority of their forces, and the troopers killed off the rest, and we stood on a dusty, empty battlefield. The troopers returned to the warmth of the cave and their fires, and continued to sit as they were before, almost as if nothing happened. But they had their battle, and they were happy men. "They fought well." War commented. "That they did." Pestilence said. "This is the best bunch of troopers I think we've ever had fight with us." Famine pointed out. Death nodded. "Are we going to attack this ice cave of the creatures?" I asked, changing the subject. "We shall in time. We'll drive a stake into the heart of this infestation, and we'll kill them all. Soon." Death said. I nodded, and wondered how soon.
