Dreamland IV - #4

Several days and a somewhat boring journey later, I arrived at the fourth of seven outposts around the edge of the country. This one had a peculiar design. It had the regular ten-foot wall, but it had several large towers in the center, which would make it hard to determine where the commander’s office was. And now I was determines to find out what their plans were after I had been killed. If I knew what their plans were I could either warm the people that they applied to or stop their plans myself. I quietly darted across a clearing to the wall, which I jumped over easily. I landed softly on the other side, and I ran quickly to the closest tower. I stood in the shadows around the tower as a two-man patrol walked by, then I walked around the tower to find a door inside. There was a spiral staircase leading upwards, which I ran up quietly and quickly. I reached the top of the tower, only to find an empty room and several doors leading to a balcony outside. "Dammit." I said to myself, before running back down the stairs and to another tower. I found the door without being spotted by the guards, and I quickly close it behind me as I enter. There was another spiral staircase leading upwards, which I started to run up, before I heard guards. "Hey you!" Somebody shouted, and I looked up. The whole garrison of guards stationed here was looking down at me from the upper floor. I cursed silently and pulled out my katana. They all started running down the narrow staircase in single file, their swords in hand. The first guards swung his sword at me, but I managed to block the blow. I pulled out Vincent’s gun and shot him in the gut. Blood exploded from the wound as he sank to the ground. I stepped over him and his corpse rolled down the staircase, leaving a trail of blood behind it. The second guard ran around the bend in the staircase right into the blade of my katana. A look of surprise filled his face as I threw him down the staircase after letting his corpse slide off my katana. The next guard ran around the bend and I shot him in the face, splattering blood all over the guard behind him. The faceless guards dropped and rolled down the stairs as I stepped over him and kept moving upwards. I continued moving upwards, taking out all the guards, until there was a long bloody and body strewn staircase behind me. I walked into the upper chambers of the tower, and there was a man in a suit of armour waiting for me. "Now you will die vampire." He said. I was surprised to see this man, and he rushed at me, holding a bulky two-handed sword. He swung down at me, and I blocked the attack with my katana. The impact rattled my bones, but I summoned my strength and shoved him backwards off his feet. He landed on his back, and his sword went skittering across the floor. I walked towards him, and he scrambled across the floor towards his sword. He stomped my foot onto his back, and he stopped. I flicked his helmet off his head with the tip of my katana. He tried to roll over, and I took my foot off his back. He looked at me with a fearful facial expression. "Apparently it’s not my time to die." I said. "I was only doing what I was told." He said. I ignored that statement and moved on to more important issues. "What are the guards plans once I have been killed?" I asked, glaring at him. "I don’t know…I wasn’t told." He said. I could tell he was lying. I put the tip of my katana against his exposed throat and smiled, baring my fangs. He started backing away slowly. "Now, what are their plans?" I asked calmly. "Well, the guards are massing their forces into a huge army and are building strange contraptions in the basement and their planning to take over this country…that’s why we wanted you dead first, because we knew you would try and stand up against us, we would surely be destroyed." The commander blurted out. I nodded. I would no longer waste my time with these outposts, I would head around the country and rally an army to protect their country and then march upon the main castle of the guard. I stood, and the commander jumped to his feet. He scrambled for his sword and lifted it into the air. As he swung it towards me, I sliced his head clean off his shoulders with my katana. Blood splattered against the far wall, and his head fell to the ground behind him, creating a small pool of blood around it. His headless corpse fell to the ground, and blood flowed from the stump in between the shoulders, forming a pool of blood. The two pools joined into a larger pool and it soaked into the wood floor. I pulled a rag from one of the pockets on my trench coat and wiped the blade of my katana clean. I put it back into its sheath. I turned from the headless corpse and walked down the blood soaked staircase to the pile of bodies that I had left there. I stepped over the smelly, bloody pile and walked out the door of the tower. I saw an archer on a balcony on the farthest tower aim an arrow at me and fire. The arrow just missed my shoulder and landed in the ground beside me. I glared at the archer and ran at the tower as fast as I could at the tower. I shoved open the door of the tower and ran up the stairs, where the archer was still standing, bewildered at my speed. I pulled his own sword from his belt and cut his head off. I took his bow and his quiver of arrows and set an arrow on the bow. I dipped it into a small bowl of a flammable liquid nearby and lit it against a nearby torch. I shot it at a nearby tower, and it slowly started burning. I figured the buildings were close enough that the flames would grow big enough to engulf the entire outpost. I smiled in satisfaction and walked away from the outpost, leaving a trail of bodies and a flaming outpost behind me.
