Dreamland X - #3

We left and travelled for some time after that, resting in secluded places during the day to avoid the sunlight. Vincent, the only one among us not a vampire, stood watch while we slept. We continued west to the location of the army's camp, and we scattered to avoid detection. Vincent, Lestat and Kirk headed off in one direction, to circle around and flank the enemy position. Strycnine, Athran and Quexos went around to the opposite side of the camp as the former trio, while Kathleen and I moved towards them head on. I sat alone under a tree in the darkness on a hill, looking down at their huge encampment, wondering how on this earth we could stop the advance of such a large army. I heard someone walking around behind me, pacing through the grass. I was dressed in complete black hiding in the shadows, so I doubted that they could see me. Nevertheless, I turned slowly to see who it was. There was a man dressed in light armour, which was as black as mine. He had a longbow with him, with a quiver of arrows on his back. He looked like a scout. I slowly drew my sword to avoid making any noise, and crept up towards him noiselessly. As I brought my blade up to strike him down, he turned and looked right at me. For a moment he didn't move, but his face became twisted in fear, and he opened his mouth to scream. Before that could happen a slender arm reached around him with a knife and slit his throat. He made a choking noise as he dropped forward to his knees, and Kathleen was standing behind him. "See? If I didn't come you'd have gotten yourself killed." she said. I laughed. "Thanks love." I said before turning back to the army. They hadn't moved or sent out any other scouts, so I sat silent for a moment. "What now?" Kathleen asked. "Thinking of a plan." I said. There was a large river located several miles west of their position, which would take a very long time to go around. Luckily for the army there was a bridge crossing the river, which I knew they would more than likely use. "I have an idea." I said. "What?" Kathleen asked. "Go round up the others. I'll tell you all when you get back." I said, and Kathleen went. I had a plan. It wouldn't stop them indefinately, but it would give Luke and the king enough time to get their army together and make ready for their last stand.
