The wind felt good on the hot afternoon and the soft music coming from the birds above her in the trees calmed her muscles. She looked across the field and saw her dad working in the garage. Her collie ran up to her and they walked over to her dad. He was working on the engine in the jeep and she leaned against the doorway watching him. When he spotted her, he grabbed a ratchet and placed it on the stubborn bolt.

DJ whined with impatience and Rod said, "Grab me my light from above the workbench."

She walked over to the workbench and pulled down the light while plugging it in. Then she walked over to the jeep and handed the glowing light to her dad. He hooked it onto a molded loop on the roof and began working once more. DJ ran out the barn and she walked over to the door to see where he went. A black stratus was parked in the drive and its driver was leaning against the car door.

He entered the dark room without a sound and looked over at the bed. The curtain was pulled back and that allowed him to look directly at her. She had been asleep for a month and the doctors didn't believe she would ever wake. Her injuries were severe and when her body gave out, she had slipped into her coma. Everyday he came to see her in hope of her waking again, but so far it hasn't happened.

He sat in the chair next to the bed and his hand found its way back to her still hand. His eyes watched the monitor tracking her pulse and he sighed in frustration. The fact that she was injured bothered him, but what egged at him was that this incident couldn't have been the only one. There had to have been more than this one time because the reports just showed too much damage for one abusive time. When he had left that first time, he went searching for answers but only ended up failing.

The door opened and he instantly pulled his hand away from hers while rising to his feet. When he saw Sun looking at him, he silently grunted and slipped out the door. He walked down the hall until he heard doctors yelling and he turned to see them running into her room. Then he found himself running back to her room and he stopped when he entered. Sun was leaning against the wall with a red mark on his face and the doctors were holding her back.

He walked up to the doctors and one said, "Help us calm her down."

He nodded and quietly looked at the young woman in front of him who held a look of confusion and distrust. Then he took her hands and the doctors went over to Sun to see if she had hurt him. When he looked at the doctors, he saw them leading Sun out of the room and then he led her over to her bed. She sat on the mattress, but her eyes never looked away from him. He saw the blood running down her arm from when she had removed her IV and he gently wiped it away.

"What are you doing here?"

Relieved that she didn't attack him, he said "I've been checking on you since you were brought here."

Her brown eyes seemed distant and she asked "How did you know I was even here?"

He shrugged and said "The police report was aired over the radio and your mom's name was given."

She ran a shaky hand through her hair and said "Now he's going to kill me for sure."

His eyes narrowed and he asked, "Who is he? Did he do this to you?"

Before she could answer, the door flew open and Jared stormed into the room. He looked from Star to her and then he walked over to them. His hand instantly gripped her arm and he jerked her to her feet. She winced as the pain raced through her body and then the bone snapped. Star was on his feet immediately and he blocked the man's exit.

He looked at the man and said "Take your hands off her, you bastard."

Jared sent him a cruel look and said, "She's none of your concern so step aside, boy."

When he jerked on her arm, she stumbled and said "Let go of me."

Star noticed how limp her arm was and he quickly knocked the man off balance. When Jared fell backwards, Star caught her and quickly hit the security button. Then he led her over to the bed and had her sit while he examined her arm. The security arrived just as Jared got to his feet and they led him away while a couple of doctors approached them. One doctor lifted her arm and she looked away in pain, which made Star knock the man's hand away.

Then another doctor asked, "Will you let us help her?"

She looked at him and he said, "I don't want to see you hurt her again."

Her eyes became clouded in confusion, but then a doctor shot some medicine into her that would knock her back out. When she looked at the man, he sighed and stepped away.A nother doctor put her IV back into her arm and she looked at him. The medicine slowly began to kick in and the doctors had her lie back before it took full-effect. They nodded as the medicine knocked her out and then they set her arm to heal.
