His pulse kept a steady beat as his eyes followed the man's movement. Already he had failed in protecting this woman, but he wasn't about to fail again. When he saw the gun in line for another shot at her, he spun in front of her. The bullet ripped into his mid back and he felt her arms wrap around him as his legs gave out. She held him up and he managed a smirk to calm both of them.
She brushed a drop of sweat from his face and asked, "You going to hang in there with me?"
His eyes caught the man's movement and he said, "I gotta."
Another second he moved in the path again and the blow to his head made everything darken to almost no visibility. He hissed as his back screamed in agony. When he looked up he saw the man watching him with a slight hint of acknowledgment. His eyes went cold and he waited for his past to be brought up.
It did and the guy said, "It's been a long time, Ter."
He felt her breath stop and he growled, "Took you long enough, Mic."
Michael smirked and asked, "So Devan didn't do as he was told to?"
His body ached as he pulled himself from her support and he growled, "He failed."
The man smirked and said, "I figured he couldn't get the job done and that's why you came back."
His temper was burning him inwardly and he asked, "What is Timmy up to now?"
Her eyes still burned into his head as he heard, "He's after something this here woman has knowledge. Of course any type of torture we used, methods you taught us that is, didn't work on this one."
He felt her step back from him and he growled, "I didn't teach those to you, remember. They were the ones Timmy had used on me through Devan and you learned from me."
Michael nodded and said, "Well, if you'd just step aside I can finish this job and take you to see Timmy. He's been wondering where the hell you were."
His eyes narrowed and he said, "Forget it."
The man seemed somewhat surprised and asked, "Why throw your life away to protect a measly agent of Mags when you'd be super beneficial to us alive? Besides, she knows the real you now."
The words made him look at Amy and he found her studying both of them as her feet slowly moved her to the edge of the cliff. She met his gaze with some hesitation, but mostly he received pure betrayal. He took a deep breath despite the agonizing pain and saw Michael set the gun. As the gun came in line with her chest, his eyes scanned for a possible escape. When he found none he looked back at her.
She was glancing straight at Michael and her right hand held her hidden weapon perfectly aimed at him. Her eyes were either full of hatred or completely focused on protecting her life long enough to get away. His right ear picked up the sound of movement in the underbrush and he scanned the shadows. His group of men stood ready to shoot Michael down but also waiting for the exact move from him. Then he watched Michael move his hand around the butt of the gun and laced a finger over the trigger.
When the finger started to move backwards he moved. His arm wrapped around her waist and he pulled her with him. The bullet ripped through his shoulder and he heard the other guns go off as they fell off the cliff. He held his gaze upwards and snatched her gun from him as they neared the raging water. The idiot stood at the edge and he fired just as the water swallowed them.
