Unaffected-Chapter 10

Feeling: abandoned

The rain tapped on the window in a quiet, but mourningful melody. The music filled the room and the shadows covered the walls and floor. A soft echo of thunder rolled through the air and a cool breeze slipped through the opening at the window seal. The breeze brushed over her arm and she took a deep breath before opening her eyes. The room was empty and she sat up slowly while looking for any signs of a struggle.

When she found everything the way it was when she had entered hours before, she brushed her hair out of her face and slid out of bed. Her legs gave out and she sat down as she let her blood start its path once more. Then she stood again and made it to the door. As her hand turned the knob a scream tore through her head.

----------------------------------------------

The sound of something scratching at the door slipped through the room and his eyes narrowed. He slowly walked to the window and moved the curtain slightly. The headlights were almost directly on him and he caught sight of two men standing at the door. One held a gun and the other was doing the lock picking. When he heard the lock shift, he moved and resealed the door.

Then a door opened down the hall and his eyes immediately looked over his shoulder. The elder woman stood with her gun ready and handed it to him. He took it without a word and stepped back as the door was blown inward. The two men stepped in without a word and his hand set the gun. When something hit the base of his neck, he growled and jerked it out.

A growl filled the room as he looked at the drugged dart and then he pointed the gun at the man closest. The man backed up to the door and his hand shifted to the trigger. Then a gunshot filled the room and he felt the pain instantly shatter his body. As the men withdrew, the gun fell from his hand and he heard the scream as his mind caved to the drugs.

----------------------------------------------

She stepped into the hall without a sound and the pounding in her head made her cling to the wall. She held a hand to her head trying to force the pain down and moved down the hall. Her head was on the point of exploding as tears burned her eyes in pain and then she stopped. She saw the woman next to him on the floor, shaking him ruthlessly trying to break through to him. Her stomach twisted horribly and then she saw the gun on the floor.

Her eyes widened and she tried to ask what happened, but her throat was sore and dry. She forced herself to the other side of him and she looked at the elder woman.

The woman looked at her and said, "Please help me. There's too much blood loss..."

Her eyes drifted down to his back and she couldn't help but take a deep breath as her fear calmed. Then she moved the woman's hands away and gently rolled him over. She heard the woman protest and she immediately looked at her.

Her voice was dry and hushed, "Get his room ready. I will need medical tools to close the wound."

The woman shook her head in denial and she growled, "Go."

Then her eyes moved from the woman back to him and she saw the small trickle of blood on his neck. Her eyes narrowed and she felt her blood burning. With a deep breath, she pulled his shirt off his chest and slid one hand underneath his back to rest on the wound. Her eyes closed and she slowly let her mind travel back to her old lessons.
