The street was packed with rush hour and horns of angry drivers filled the air. The sun was setting slowly and its rays entered his office. He walked over to the glass and looked out on the world below. His energy was beyond control and he knew where to go to lose it. With a drink from his glass in his left hand, he picked up his phone and dialed a now familiar number.
It took several minutes to get through, but eventually he succeeded. She picked up and he listened to her complain about being interrupted.
Then he asked, "When is Amy going to be back?"
She stopped her complaining mid-sentence and said, "Uh...well..."
Her hesitation only irritated him further and he demanded, "Mags, tell me when she'll be getting back."
Mags sighed away from the phone and said, "We don't know."
He looked out his window and asked, "What do you mean you don't know? Aren't you in charge of everything?"
"We lost contact with her a few days back. We figured it was nothing and expected her to arrive yesterday. The plane landed at nine, but she didn't get off. We thought it might have been delayed or she might have missed it, so we looked over all the flight lists. Her name wasn't on a single one. I'm sorry, Ter."
He took a deep breath and said, "Keep looking. She should be arriving now if not soon."
Mags sighed and said, "Ter, it's no use. She's already labeled K.I.A."
His eyes narrowed and he hung up. He tossed his phone back onto his desk and collapsed into his chair.
'How could she be gone? We had promised to see each other after this. She can't be gone. She can't, not after what she told me.'

He ran his hand down her cheek and watched her eyes burn. She rolled closer to him and he kissed her forehead. Her magical scent of honey made him wish the sun wasn't rising. Then he took a deep breath and looked at her.
She was watching him and he asked, "What?"
Her eyes lost a little light and she said, "I'm leaving in a few hours, Ter."
He knew and said, "I already know that. I expect to see you when you get finished with all this work."
She smirked and said, "Keep telling yourself that. This line of work is too unpredictable to determine if I'll be back soon or if I won't."
His hand ran through her hair and he said, "You'll be back. We'll even set a date on it."
The smirk grew slightly and she said, "You always knew how to talk around things."
He kissed her softly and said, "That was except for you. I learned the direct approach is the best when it comes to handling you."
She chuckled and said, "I noticed, and I guess you're right. Ter?"
His eyebrow went up and he asked, "What?"
Her smirk faded and she said, "I don't think this one will go over easily. I don't know if I will come back...so I wanted to tell you that..."

His eyes opened and he took a deep breath. Then he got to his feet and walked over to the chair his jacket hung in. When he slid it on, he took in her honey scent and smirked. He couldn't understand how that fireball from Texas had him completely helpless. With a last scan, he left the office and walked to the elevator.
When he was on his way out of the lobby, he heard a commotion coming from outdoors. He shoved it aside and walked to the employee parking lot. As he unlocked his car, he saw someone leaning against a nearby car. His eyes narrowed and the stranger walked up to him with an envelope bearing his name. The guy handed him the envelope and left.
He took a minute and opened the envelope. A few pictures slid out and he looked over each of them. When he came to the last one, his blood quickened and he threw everything into his car. Then he started the engine and quickly headed to Mag's apartment. It took five minutes to get across the city and another five to park his car.
His legs bounded up the stairs three at a time and he quickly knocked on her door. When she opened it, he shoved past her and she closed the door. Then he tossed the envelope on the kitchen table and she walked over to it. Her eyes studied each picture and he waited for her reaction.
The last picture fell from her hand and she mumbled, "Oh my god."
He looked directly at her and asked, "Is this what happens when you label someone K.I.A.?"
She looked at him and said, "Ter, we didn't know."
He grabbed the information and said, "I'll get help elsewhere."
Then he walked to the door and she said, "Let us help you. We know this group."
He opened the door and said, "I think you've done enough helping for a life time. Now if you'd excuse me. I have someone to get back."
