The office atmosphere was thick with heat and body sweat. Everyone was fighting the heat caused exhaustion while they worked by using personal fans. Some people opened windows while others were constantly at the water fountain. In the conference room down the hall, there was no change. People leaned back in their seats and fanned themselves with anything that would do the job.
One client, a middle aged woman with small wrinkles on her forehead looked at the man across the table. He sat there completely calm and seemed to be unaffected by the heat. She looked at her co-worker and found the woman just as cool. She also noticed how the woman's gaze remained fixed with the man across the table.
She leaned forward and said, "I think we've done all we can today."
The man in charge stood and said, "I agree. Hopefully the circumstances will not be the same when you return next week."
The woman nodded and looked at her co-worker. The woman stood waiting at the door and she turned to the stoic man across the table.
She smirked and said, "Hopefully you will join us too."
Then she walked to the door and the two women left the room. The boss fell back into his chair and looked at his co-worker. The man pushed back from the table and walked over to the window.
The boss shook his head and said, "I can't believe you didn't say a single word throughout the entire meeting! Well maybe I can."
The youth looked at him and said, "I didn't need to."
He shook his head and said, "Adam, I know you're not the talkative type. However, in this line of business you need to talk sufficiently in order to work your way up any further."
Adam out the window and said, "Not my game, Pete."
Pete sighed and said, "Boy I don't get you. There's not a single flaw noticable with you, especially where the women are concerned. You just have to step into society instead of hanging in the shadows."
Cold eyes looked back at him and he shook his head. Then the man grabbed his briefcase and left the room. When he stepped into the hall, Pete dropped his head back onto the top of the chair and sighed.
'Someday you'll learn, my boy. Someday you'll learn.'
