Listening to: He Wasn't-Avril Lavigne
Feeling: inpain
Slowly the open conversation began to die between Oric and Eve. She let her eyes sweep over the green hills and found their guide stopped at the top. His stallion looked proud as he stood waiting for them. She felt Carina slow down and rubbed her neck. Slowly they approached the Lord and he looked back at the two.
"She stays with you Oric."
The cook nodded and said "Not a problem."
The man glanced at her briefly and then had Solomon continue on. They descended a gradual hill and she found the valley holding the sea side town. Quietly they rode down to the town and she found three guards waiting for them. Each guard helped them dismount and held the beasts at bay. Carina nudged her shoulder and she rubbed the mare's face to comfort her.
"I'll be back soon."
She snorted and Eve patted her nose. Turning back around, she found the two men waiting on her and she quietly joined them. She could feel the eyes from everyone they passed land on her but ignored it. It was the same everywhere she went, at home or here. Oric stopped them by the market and looked back at the Lord.
"We'll see you when we get done."
The man didn't say a word and disappeared into an old building. She looked for a sign and found a library sign hanging at the far end. Glancing back at Oric, she found him heading in the opposite direction and followed after him. He guided her into a quiet market full of business and she watched him begin to purchase items. As he made his way through the food and spices, she heard soft giggling and glanced behind her.
Two women about her age were laughing at her outfit and she flashed them a smile. They stopped laughing and ran the other way. Shaking her head, she checked on her guide and found him putting the past purchase away. He glanced back at her and waved her over to a new building.
"Thought you might enjoy some new clothes while we were here."
She followed him into the building and found the place full of all the latest fashions for these people.
"Really Oric, I mustn't."
She saw him give a sly smile and heard "It won't be coming out of my money."
Knowing this was somehow going to affect the Lord more, she sighed and slowly began looking around. The shop keeper spotted her and came up to her.
"I see you're more of a modern woman. I think the clothes you'd like are over in the other room. Follow me."
She silently followed the woman into a new room and found it full of blouses and pants similar to what she was wearing now. Boots shined from the wall and she glanced down at the woman. A measuring tape was pulled out and the shopkeeper took her measurements without a word. After a few things were written on a pad of paper, Eve was pulled to a small dressing room and told to wait.
She sat down on an available stool and let out a sigh. This was not something she planned on. Getting new clothes was just going to make it more difficult on her mission. She pushed those dark thoughts aside and watched the shopkeeper enter. The woman displayed new outfits and studied her one more time.
"I think these will only get you so far."
She didn't like those words, hearing them too often growing up. The woman disappeared again and she ran her hand over the clothes left with her. They felt amazingly soft and she liked the shades. The woman returned and held different dresses over her arm with some matching shoes.
"I really shouldn't."
The woman shook her head and said "I won't take no. Try them on and let me know if they fit, even though I'm never wrong in my measurements."
The woman left once more and she slowly climbed to her feet. Carefully she tried on each piece and found them all exactly right. The woman didn't exaggerate about her skills and she turned her attention to the dressers. Taking the woman's word on good faith, she spared herself from trying on the dressers and slid back into her own clothes. Stepping out of the dressing room, she found Oric and the shopkeeper talking.
Oric smiled at the amount of clothes she held and said "I figured she'd do a good job."
Quietly she brought the clothes up to the shopkeeper and the woman rung them up. She held her breath as she waited for the final bill and heard the woman laugh.
"Oh he'll have your head this time, Oric."
The man chuckled and said "I'll fear that man the day he can actually box my ears for a change."
They shared a laugh and the woman put the clothes in a bag for transport. She handed it to Oric and he winked down at Eve.
"This way he won't be able to tell for certain what we've been up to."
"You really think he'd fall for that?"
The man smiled and said "If it doesn't involve life or death situations, he doesn't really pay much attention."
"Oh."
The man laughed and said "Thank you again, my dear. We better head back before he does come looking and catches us here."
The woman smiled and they left the building. Quietly they walked along the pier and she found the sun glowing in the east.
"You like the ocean?"
She nodded and stopped walking. Resting her arms on the rail, she watched birds fly over head and listened to the gentle waves.
Oric chuckled and said "I'm going to take these items back to the horses and if I see our guide, I'll send him your way."
She watched the guy take off before she could argue with him and smiled. He was definitely up to something and her smile faltered. A nagging old man always reminded her of her own father and she looked back at the ocean. She could imagine the dolphins playing and Niall being up to no good himself. Most likely her brothers are at each other's throats again and some unfortunate soul would be trying to break them up in her stead.
"I miss them so much."
