why do birds sing? are they singing to praise the glories of spring? are they singing for these lovely temperate days, filled with sunshine and flowers and the regeneration of life? if so, why do they sing at night? it seems that they shouldn't, but then, as i step outside, i hear no sound other than the birdsong on the still night air. how delightfully odd... perhaps they sing for no reason at all other than the love of singing. i kind of hope that's the answer. or maybe they're singing to the night. nah, that's too poetic. they are just birds after all. it's probably a simple mating thing. they're just horny, that's all. mystery solved... damn birds...
