Listening to: \"Social Life\" - Koufax
Feeling: belligerent
What is a normal social life? What is normal? I am, as many are, having trouble understanding this term. It seems to mean something different to everyone. The deffinition of normal fluxuates from person to person.
For some, normal means being average or doing things that the average person does. The problem with this is that there is no average person. The average person could be defined as doing whatever the majority does. This, I believe, is impossible because everyone is in the minority somehow. I mean, technically, no man can be the average because there are more women in America than men. If you want to think in global standards, the average person is Chinese because China, having the largest population in the world currently, controlls the marjority. If you want to think in local terms, take a random small population and look at every aspect of their lives. Compare these aspects to eachother and you will see that no one in that population contains the exact average of all of the elements presented. Thus, it is impossible to be average and this deffinition is void.
Another person may define normal as being able to do things that people are born able to do. For instance, the normal person is born with the ability to see and hear. In this respect, normality is determined by genetics. However, genetic studies show us that every person is born with some sort of "abnormality" on the genetic level. These genetic differences have an impact on how our body works and how are body is different than other people's bodies. Some deformations are less evident, like some people the bottom of their earlobes attached to their head and others do not. As to which of these is more common I am not sure, but the one that happened the most would be considered normal. Some differences are so small and unimportant that they are completely unnoticable. No two DNA strands are exactly alike, except in cases where identical children are born. So, I suppose under this deffinition, the person with the most brothers or sisters identical to them is the most normal.
The truth, as I see it, is that either none of us are normal because none of us can form for ourselves to a solid deffinition for what a normal person is or we are all normal in the fact that none of us are normal. Because no person is exactly like another person, we all share that characteristic that none of us are exactly alike. Through this logic, all of us are normal in the fact that all of us are different.
"And it just so happens now,
Our friends know what we're all about..."
