Man, am I tired. I spent the last 24 hours with Mollie, being her personal assistant/slave for her wedding day. My feet hurt so bad. My whole weekend was devoted to my good old friend Mollie and helping to achieve this fairy tale wedding.
Yesterday, we had the rehearsal at Faith at noon. Then we went downtown to the park where it was going to take place (Heartland of America Park, for you Omaha-ers). Then we went to Famous Dave's BBQ for the rehearsal dinner. It was some good eatin, let me tell you. After that, my mom and I went and bought her a dress to wear to the wedding and some shoes (Payless Shoe Lover's Weekend). Then we met the wedding party at the bowling alley and all went bowling. It was a great time had by all. Then I spent last night at Mollie's house so I could keep my eye on her all day today.
We all went and got our hair done this morning at 11. By "we", I mean Mollie, her 2 sisters who were bridesmaids, me the train engineer, Mollie's mom, Chad's mom, and Chad's sister Elisha. Mollie got "princess hair" with her tiara in the front and the veil in the back. It was very pretty. Then we went down to the Marriot and got dressed. Mollie's dress was really heavy. The train was 6 feet and had beading and lace work on the edge. The pearl beads and lace was on the bottom of the dress too and on the empire waist. It was "ivory" satin and was really beautiful but very heavy. And also didn't fit. I went to zip her up and I was like "uh, this is not going to happen". Her sister Katy and I are pulling and trying but it was just not to be. Mollie's like "I can't breathe, I'm going to pass out" and that was just when we were holding it together to try to zip it. Luckily(!), the top layer was fine, it was big; it was the two underlayers of the dress that were way too tight. So we had Rick (Katy's fiance) go down to the front desk and get scissors. I kid you not, we cut the beautiful wedding dress. Correction, I cut the wedding dress. We cut 4 seams along the darts in the two bottom layers and then we could get it zipped. But for awhile there, we were all very, very scared.
So after we were all dressed and made up and ready to go, everyone piles in cars and heads to the park, except me and Mollie. We ride over in a horse-drawn carriage, one of the ones they have at the Old Market. It was super fun. Mollie started crying in the carriage but she was fine by the time we got to the park. The wedding ceremony took place overlooking the lake and the huge fountain (not near us though, we didn't get sprayed). It was very pretty. Mollie and I got out of the carriage, which went right through the park to the end of the ceremony area, and met her parents at the end of the aisle. Both her parents walked her down the aisle and I shadowed behind carrying the train. The ceremony was great except it was super HOT! I was dripping sweat, literally, off my face. The sound system got really hot and wouldn't work half the time. I got to hold a sign that said "compromise", one of the 5 things to remember in marriage. Then after the ceremony, it was my job to stand by with cold water for Mollie while pictures were taken. I know, I'm a good personal assistant. After pictures were done, I unhooked the train and rode with my mom and the train back to the hotel, a whooping 3 blocks.
Anyways, then there was a reception, it was great fun, I danced and shook my booty, ate some chicken and cake, and changed Mollie into her spare white dress since her actual wedding dress weighed appr. 30 pounds. It was funny, when she came out in her short, stretchy "other" dress, the photographer did a double/triple take. He didn't realize that she was pregnant until that point. I was like, geez man, she's 4 and a half months pregnant, how can you not? But her wedding dress did do a good job of it, you just might think she was a big chubby. I think the cutest thing though was that she wore her cowboy boots underneath her big poofy dress. It was like a cute little secret that only a few of us knew, at least until she hiked up her dress to try to cool off during pictures. I think I should go barefoot during my wedding, as long as I have a dress that's long enough to hide it. That way I wouldn't have to worry about my feet hurting like they do right now.
So yeah, I'm super tired now and also in pain. Tomorrow I have to drive down to my grandparents' farm to help them out. Their 60th wedding anniversary is next weekend and I'm going down for two days to help them clean and stuff. Also, eat their fresh sweet corn from the garden. So now I'm going to bed, sleepy time!
you know you love me ;)
Beth -- I'll call you tomorrow night on my cell phone and we can talk about the Kenny Chesney concert. Can you believe it's on Thursday, I'm super excited!! :D
