I think this job is gonna rock. :D Let me explain: Some small things that I am super excited about. This man, Jim, is an actual attorney, knows his job and does it in a timely manner. Not sure what Ralph is...but this guy is the real deal. This man has a repuation and has those clients that know his work ethic and his commitment. It's like the mafia "I got people, people who know how to do that kinda stuff. I'll hook you up". I hope I don't speak too soon on this But I believe Jim is a man of his word It's only the first day and I gather all this information that says alot about his character This man does not make a liar out of me when it comes to phone calls. When I say that Jim will call them back, Jim actually calls them back the same day whether he has anything to tell them or not. He does not ignore his clients or other parties and he does not take/represent clients that he may choose to ignore later. Once he takes a client, he is commited to them. Jim keeps his own calendar. He makes his appointments, he calendars deadlines and such things so I don't have to babysit him like I did with Ralph! And Jim does not procrastinate from what I hear and observe. It's so nice! I don't have to calendar it, remind him its there, then find the file for him cuz he can't and then shove him out the door to get the appointment. Or make a mad dash to the post office or courthouse cuz he procrastinated. Jim is on top of things! And another nice bonus is mainly the financial part of it is mostly on his shoulders. I take the clients payment and record it in Quickbooks and then give it to him. So he makes the deposits, he goes to the post office to mail big packages, he buys the postage, he buys the office supplies, etc. etc. I don't have to go to the post office, bank or courthouse again! I can stay here at a desk and dictate! Dictating is my favorite part! I could do it all day! Jim has also made many offering to pay for anything that might improve my skills as in a new chair or desk, or tuition for a class that is relevant to the job, and even to paying the fees so that I get to become a notary! I getta be a notary! Ralph has never even remotely offered to upgrade anything of mine or help with tuition. I upgraded myself as much as I could on his stupid pay he gave me. And it's still nice to know that Jim is a family man and religious (High Council), so comforting to know that he understands a few things when it comes to family, ya know? And it's still a bonus that he is a solo guy and very flexibile. Jim keeps saying there will be "substantial increases" in pay as I improve and learn more. I can't even fathom the pay I'm getting now...let alone grasp the fact that I could earn more. Hold the phone here Jim. He gives -incentive- to be better, to improve. All I wanted to do with Ralph was complain and ignore tasks. And Jim gives hope and faith that you can learn all this stuff and be on top of it really soon. He encourages. That tells me that Jim will actually recognize and rewardly appreciate the things that I'll do for him. I won't have to go ask for a raise. He'll see what I've been doing and show some appreciation! I don't even know how to react to that... It's never happened before. Man oh man. This man was soo good to me in one day that Ralph was in like 2 1/2 years. I feel like I broke up with a boyfriend (Ralph), and that I was being abused in that relationship but I didn't know how bad it was until I left him, got out of the relationship. All I have to compare Jim with is the experience with Ralph. And heck, anything would be better than that! Why was I so worried Jim and I wouldn't get along or something? After surviving Ralph I could get along with anyone I think! I can actually communicate with Jim! And the reason he is so... successful, I think is the right term, is because he's a quick responder and a paper pusher. I think that'll be the gist of my job. Getting documents out the door. When Jim gets a phone call from a client or attry regarding a case and what needs to be done, when he puts the phone down he'll open that case and dictate what needs to be done next in the file. He doesn't ignore the phone call, doesn't put it off for a few days and forget it, he usually takes care of it that day. Which means that I get to see the immediate result of my work, the work we do together. Major plus. And it goes faster with just the two of us focusing on one thing at a time til its finished rather than having that lapse or the middle man to take time to decide what to do. Awesome! For example: I got a phone call, Jim was busy, I took a message, I told Jim, Jim calls them back asap, and this case was about a deposition being scheduled. After the phone call he dictates a letter to all the parties that are involved in the deposition he just scheduled and gives me the tape. I dictate the letters and print them out, give them to him to read and sign and then we fax them. All within the one day and that matter is taken care of. After making that list of all the things that Jim does on his own without needing to be babysat...I wonder what else is left for me to do?.... So far its only Outlook, Quickbooks (recording and billing) and dictating with some filing. I'm sure there's more....right? It's like doing so much less work for a lot more pay and respect! And when I mean less work, I mean no babysitting! I can actually dictate and ....do things! Ah! Excited.

oh goodness! I'm so excited that your new job is good!! It sounds a lot better than your old job...did you take your cactus with you? ;)

Caleb and our kitty are doing well. Caleb works a lot but we still get to spend most evenings together. The kitty is hilarious and actually plays with us. it's wonderful. I'm a bit scared though because it's cold now and I have to run the heater and I don't know how much it costs yet. :/ oh well. Otherwise I'm just keeping busy with school and soil judging and belly dancing and occasionally work. heh.
hooray! what job?! Congratulations!
