So I work in a restaurant. Weeknights are not terribly busy, so there are only two servers on and two hostesses on (usually). In those cases, when the servers get busy and need help, of course the hostesses are going to do whatever it is they can to help out the servers.
Such was the case tonight.
Near closing time, it gets to the point where we needed to send someone home, and the servers told me to send the other hostess home (because I'm the more experienced one, having been there two and a half years), and so I do, after checking with her that she did all the closing stuff that she said she did. She said that yeah she did her stuff, and I told her she was good to leave and go home then.
So, away I go, finishing what all I thought was left to be finished, and then the servers tell me that I am good to go, that they don't need me. I clock out, realize that I need a phone number that isn't on the staff list yet, and end up having to go back up to sift through applications to find the one I need.
I get back up to the front of the restaurant and the server that told me I could go lashed out at me, telling me that some of the stuff that the other hostess signed off on didn't get done and that we (both hostesses) had slacked off.
Now, keep in mind that we hostesses had been running the whole front of the restaurant (seating people, taking phone orders, running the pizza oven, busing, wiping and resetting tables, among many other things). Not only had we been doing all of our stuff, but since it was busy, we were also helping the servers take food to tables, take drinks to tables, take drink orders, take bread sticks to tables, splitting checks for customers. Basically we were doing all of our work, plus the work that the servers needed help with.
The server that lashed out at me said that we had been really helpful, but that when it came to closing, she thought that we did less work when the manages was gone than we would do when she was there. So, I was already off the clock and she asked if I had clocked out. I told her that I had, at which point she told me to go clock back in and finish the stuff that she said needed done (which just so happened to be the stuff that the other hostess said she had done).
Also, when I had clocked out, I had texted for my ride, and by the time the server was finished yelling at me about how lazy I am, my ride had showed up and was CALLING me (and I was still OFF THE CLOCK).
So, of course I stayed to finish what stuff the server said needed done, but of course all I am is just this lazy girl who does the servers' work all night along with my own but still somehow manages to be the lazyass person who was told she could go home and then gets bitched at.
Go freaking figure.
