  New Hummingbird
We've had a hummingbird for a few years, we knew he was the same one because he always perched in the same spot. We knew he was a he because our bird book told us that his colors said he was a boy.
My little sister and I named him the boss and daddy prepared hummingbird food for him in the texas hummingbird feeder, this was a few years ago.
The Boss leaves when it gets cold and comes back when it starts getting warm. We take down his food when he leaves, and when he comes back he hums at my dad and flits around an empty spot in the air where his hanging-diner(what I call the feeder) is hung from and perches on our weather stick, impatiently.
He always perches at the tip of a tree in our backyard. He refuses to share the diner with other hummingbirds, either, he's mean like that.
This year, though, he's getting old, and there's a new hummingbird hanging around. It's actually probably one of The Boss's offspring, but he's competition for the diner.
I know he's not The Boss because he perches at the top of a tree that I can see the tip of from my 3rd story bedroom window when I'm sitting at the computer.
It's windy tonight.
I saw him perched there just barely. Maybe I'll call him The Manager. or Joe. Joe the Hummingbird. Yeah. Joe was just barely perched there, in the wind, and I watched his feathers being ruffled, I was worried about poor Joe being blown away, The New Hummingbird.
But he hung in there.
Everything was against him. He was fighting a current of air. It might have been easier just to let go and let it take him, but no.
He hung in there.
Joe is an inspiration to us all.
That is so immensely cool.
