Well I think we "soar"

Listening to: tv
Feeling: alright
The review for the show was in the paper today. I'm a little bit disapointed, but it could be a lot worse. Here it is: "REVIEW: ‘Birdie’ doesn’t soar, but it does amuse By JAMES HARLEY Special to The State Town Theatre provides an enjoyable, if predictable, production of the popular musical spoof “Bye Bye Birdie.” Set in late-1950s middle America, the show follows teen-idol rock star Conrad Birdie and his manager’s angst-filled family on a final publicity stunt before he enters the Army. Along the way, the show teaches us to grab life by the horns and make the most of what we have. The energetic production offers no truly stellar performances, but Rachel A. Broadwell stands out among the cast, demonstrating an array of skills as she sings and dances her way into the heart of Conrad’s manager, played by Tracy Steele. Emily Floyd, as a “hungry-for-life” teen chosen to be the lucky object of Conrad’s big stunt, turns in a good vocal performance. Among the large supporting cast, Abby Thames, who brings great spirit to her role as an infatuated teen fan, and Angela Goodnough, who enlivens the stage with her brief appearance as a starry-eyed girl looking for her big break, deserve mention. Directed and choreographed by Dedra Daniels Mount, the show features big, high-energy dance numbers that are thoughtfully put together if not perfectly executed. Costume designers Renee Wright and Steve Soforic had their work cut out for them, and were up to the task, distilling the character of Conrad effectively before he even speaks a word. The show has a few dead moments and is inconsistent vocally, but as a community-theater offering it has its charms and makes for good family entertainment. It will neither change your life nor make you into a theater addict, but it might make you smile and appreciate being who you are. “Bye Bye Birdie” will run through July 24. Call (803) 799-2510 for reservations."
