I sit beside a small fire burning on the side of the road several hours after the battle with the beast. I stoke the fire with a stick I had found as Vincent stirs.
"How long was I out?" he asks, rubbing his forehead.
"Several hours." I say, not looking away from the fire.
He sits up and looks around. I toss him a slab of deer I had killed and cooked over the fire and he begins muching away on it.
I take a small rock and begin sharpening the blade of my katana with it.
"Did you find out where Cervantes was?" He asks me.
"He's over in that distant mountain range in a mountain that resembles a skull." I say, not looking up from my blade.
He nods and looks towards the mountain range. He finishes his slab of meat and falls asleep.
I finish sharpening my blade and put it back into its sheath. I take the sheath off my belt and lay it beside me as I lay down.
I close my eyes and try to fall asleep, but I hear footsteps walking by. I open my eyes and see a caravan of people walking by, several of them looking at us.
I sit up, scaring them back a few feet.
"What are all you people walking around at this time for?" I ask.
"Cervantes." I hear.
I stand, while Vincent silently snores.
"What has he done to you people?" I ask them. They all stop and look at me.
"He burned our homes and killed everyone dear to us." I hear from within the crowd.
The crowd clears a path through it, and a man in a brown monk robe steps forward.
"Who are you?" I ask him. He looks up at me.
He has his hood over his head, so all I can see of his face is his chin and neck.
"I was the leader of that town that was just burning down. Cervantes and his monster came and started the fire, and left. He left his monster to take care of the rest of us. We managed to flee, and that was when you guys came along. And for that, we are in your debt." He explains.
"Well, sleeping beauty here didn't really do much, but thanks anyways." I say, motioning to Vincent, who rolled over away from us and kept sleeping.
"I would wish to pledge my services to you and aid you in destroying Cervantes." He says, taking a knee before me.
"Stand up man. I'd be glad for your help, but I'm nor royalty or anything." I say, and the monk stands.
I shake his hand. "Welcome aboard."
He smiles and then turns to his robed followers.
"Go to the mountain caves." He says, and they all nod and start walking away.
The monk turns back to me.
Our strength has just increased.
