Normally, I wouldn't feel pain, but as soon as I felt it, I knew I was going to die.
I turned slowly, and saw Janet pull her hands back from the knife, which was now embedded in my flesh. The knife's blade had been forged of the vampire killing metal, and I now knew I had only a limited amount of time left.
I was too weak to hold onto my sword, and it fell from my grasp to the floor.
I reached aroud behind me and pulled the knife from my back. I managed somehow to climb to my feet, and I stalked towards Janet.
"Had to kill my knights? Had to kill my wife? Well, not it is your turn to join the dead." I said, the angry rasp again filling my voice.
The last shred of my humanity was gone. I grabbed Janet around the neck and plunged the knife's bloody blade into her chest.
Blood poured from the wound and dribbled down her white gown, eventually spreading to a large puddle on the floor.
I released her, and she fell backward to the ground. I turned to Inekwar and his mother, whose faces bore a look of sadness, sorrow, and surprise.
I dropped to my knees, my strength fading away fast.
"Inekwar...take my sword. Clean it off and bear it in my honour son." I said, slowly sagging to the ground.
Inekwar scrambled for my sword and brought it to me.
"You can't die father." he said.
"There's nothing that's going to stop that now, Inekwar." I said.
Inekwar cried. Tears flowed down his pale face, and I fought off the urge to join him. I laid a hand on his trembling shoulder, and spoke as softly as I could.
"I will see you again. I will await you in the afterlife my son." I said, and his mother joined me as well.
I fell backward to the ground, and she caught me and gently laid me against the ground.
"Take care of him." I said.
My former love kissed me softly on the lips.
Darkness crept in on my vision, and I heard her say she loved me.
"I love you both. Be strong. I will see you again." I said.
I lay back and closed my eyes, unable to keep them open any longer.
I heard voices. Many, many voices, and they all soon mixed into one loud stream of sound.
At the end of it all, I heard Inekwar say one last goodbye, and all was silent.
