Vincent and the others cleared up the dead bodies of the guards and tossed them into a nearby river while I interrogated the young guard in our cave.
"Who sent you?" I demanded. He spat at my feet, and I punched him in the face before asking the question again. He spat blood and gritted his bloody teeth.
"His name is Scott Nucomm, the new general of the guards." He replied. I could tell he was angry.
"And who are you?" I asked, trying to be as nice as possible.
"I am Inekwar, your son." He said. He spat blood again, and struggled with the ropes that were holding him to the chair on which he saw.
I somehow knew he was my offspring. His face looked identical to mine, but his dark brown eyes reminded me of my former love, whom I had not seen in about eighteen years now.
"How old are you?" I asked.
"Eighteen." He said. I was taken aback.
"Who is your mother?" I asked. He looked up at me.
"Your former love, and the leader of the rouge guards." He replied.
"What did she tell you about me?" I asked. He cleared his throat and prepared to tell me the tale.
"Well, ever since I was born she told me about you. She told me you were once a great commander, and she left you one day because she felt like a change. She told me you killed the man she had fallen for, and when her guards came to investigate you fled. She told me you met up with a bunch of rouges that battled evil, and defeated her guards in a battle, during which you dueled her and you won. She said that after that you faded out of existance, although she pursued you with her guards. She said that you killed her accomplice, and she never found you again. She organized her guards into a large army after that, and a few years later you battled her army and defeated them. She said that you had become a vampire at that point, and she didn't hear anything about you after that battle until now." He said. I nodded slowly.
"Is that all she said? Or is there more?" I asked.
"She said you're a formidable warrior, and she looks forward to the day you duel with her again." He said.
"Where does she live?" I asked.
"Why? Are you going to kill me and her now?" He growled.
"I'm not going to kill either of you." I snapped back, before calming myself, "I'm going to escort my son home."
He nodded slowly, and I cut the ropes holding him in place. He didn't attack me or make any moves of any kind, and Kirk entered the cave.
"What're you doing with this one?" He asked.
"He's my son. I'm taking him home." I said. Kirk looked as surprised to the news as I was.
He nodded, and together we left the cave. Once outside, I tried concentrating on flying again. I looked up at the starlit sky above me and concentrated hard.
I saw Inekwar take a step back, with an amazed look on his face. At that moment, I realized I was flying again.
"Take my arm and hold on tight." I said, lowering my arm to the boy. He looked frightened, but he gripped my arm tightly.
"Where exactly does she live?" I asked him again.
"Over there." He said, pointing east.
I smiled and cocentrated on the eastern direction, and formed a rough image of her home in my mind. I felt wind rush past my face, and saw the land rush by underneath me. Inekwar struggled to hold on, so I slowed down a bit, but I went fast enough that we'd make it there before dawn.
We flew for at least an hour, and I landed as softly as we could once we arrived. We landed in front of a large castle, with many lights burning inside. We approached the front gate, where four white armoured guards stood.
They all raised their spears towards me, but Inekwar waved them off. They lowered their weapons and opened the large gate, but still looked at me with a look of distrust. I followed Inekwar through the large halls of the castle, towards his mother's chambers.
Once we arrived, he knocked twice on the heavy wooden door, and a servant opened it for us. We were led to the main chamber of her room, and she looked overjoyed when she saw Inekwar.
"You've returned!" she said, running towards and hugging him. They smiled at each other, and Inekwar looked over at me.
"Who's that?" she asked. He apparently didn't recognize me. I almost laughed, but smiled instead.
"You don't recognize me?" I said softly, cutting Inekwar off. She squinted her eyes as she stared at my face.
"Should I?" She asked.
"I was once your friend, but you rejected me. I have defeated many of your men, and am slayer of your armies." I said. That was all I needed to say, because her eyes widened when she recognized me. She drew a sword from a nearby wall, and pointed its tip towards my chest.
"Why're you here?" she demanded.
"Returning our son to you. His battalion was defeated early this evening." I said, clasping my hands behind my back.
She put her sword down. "Thank you." she said, returning the sword to its spot on the wall.
"I also need a favour." I said as she turned away from me. She spun around.
"Why should I trust a vampire?" she rasped.
"Because the armoured guards who defeated you have begun searching the land for enemies and killing them. And our vampire group is vastly outnumbered. Wanna give us a hand with these guys?" I said.
She looked shocked. She slowly started walking towards me.
"You kill the guy I came to like, killed my battalions, and slay my armies and you expect me to help you now?" She snarled. I looked down at her.
"Well, yeah." I said. She punched me in the chest. I saw it coming, and prepared myself for contact. The blow landed, and I took a step back.
She suddenly smiled.
"How many of my guards do you need?" she asked.
"An army. And I'd like a place to sleep during the day until we meet up with my group again." I said.
"Fine. Whatever you need, tell me later after you've rested." She said, before she turned and walked into her chambers again. Inekwar walked me out of the room, and to a dark cellar underneath the castle's lowest level.
"Goodnight father." He said, before smiling and walking out of the dark chamber.
"Goodnight son." I called back.
I fell asleep with a smile on my face.
