The next night, as the guards prepared for an assault on their castle, we prepared for battle as well.
We took the captured catapults and lined them up in a line, with all of them facing the large wooden gate of the castle.
I smiled as I walked towards them, my black cape billowing behind me. The guards looked scared in their castle, but they weren’t nearly scared enough.
"Fire!" I shouted, and the ropes on the catapults were cut, sending four huge boulders at the gate.
The first one smashed into it, almost causing it to collapse, before it was nailed by the second one, pushing a huge hole in the gate.
The third boulder nailed the top of the gate, breaking down the top of it.
"Ready men?" I shouted at my army.
They yelled at me in unison.
The last boulder struck the bottom of the gate, clearing a path for our troops. With a loud battle cry, we charged through the broken down gate and into the castle.
We were met by a group of guards about a quarter of the size of our army.
One of them ran towards me, who I cut down with a swift slice across the mid section. Blood arced from the wound as he fell backwards.
My men continued their charge and swept through the group of guards, killing everything stupid enough to get in their way.
A guard ran at me, taking me by surprise. I was knocked to the ground and my sword went skittering across the floor of the area.
The guard attempted to boot me in the side, but I grabbed his foot and twisted his ankle until his ankle broke with a dull crunch sound.
I tossed him to the side and looked around for my sword. Another guard ran at me, yelling and holding a sword over his head.
I ran at him as well and jump kicked him in the gut, sending him flying backwards. I found my sword and grabbed it, bring it up into a guard’s gut. Blood spurted form the wound as he fell backwards.
The archers lining the upper walls of the castle all grabbed swords and charged into battle against us.
I smiled and ran after them. The first guard I came upon tried to swing his sword at me, but I blocked his shot and slammed my blade into his neck, sending his head from his shoulders.
Blood flowed and spurted from the wound as his headless corpse fell to the ground. I stepped over his bleeding corpse as I continued my violent rampage through the inexperienced archers.
I slashed downwards across one guard’s chest, ripping his torso open. Blood arced and flowed from the wound as he screamed in pain and fell backwards.
I hacked another guard down with a horizontal slash across his gut, and blood exploded from the wound and covered the ground in blood.
I swung my blade at another guard, and he managed to block my attack with his sword.
"Lucky block." I said, before I punched him across the face to hard it snapped his neck. After a dull crunch sound, he dropped to the ground, his neck limp.
I found a staircase that led to the upper walls of the castle, and there were about five archer/swordsman guards running down it towards the battle.
I ran towards them, full of anger and happiness that the battle would soon be over. I cut down the first one and kicked his corpse off the stairs.
I took off the second one’s head, and it landed softly within the battle below. His headless corpse fell down the stairs, leaving a trail of blood behind it.
The third one slashed down at me, the tip of his blade bouncing off my armour breastplate.
He looked shocked, so I took advantage of the situation.
I grabbed him by the shoulder and pitched him off the staircase. He landed on his neck below. The two last guards winced at the crunch noise.
I rammed my blade through one of their guts as they stood still, the tip of my blade emerging through his spine, shooting blood all over the guard behind him.
I threw his dead corpse off my blade and into the battle below. The last guard tried to run away from me, but I threw my sword like a spear and nailed him in the spine. Blood exploded from the wound as he fell forward onto his face.
I finished my run up the stairs to where several flags of the guards were waving. I cut down their flagpoles, and they harmlessly floated away.
The leader of the guards, a man by the name of Derrick ran out at me, his sword in hand.
"I will slay you vampire!" He shouts at me.
I smirk and he runs at me, swing his sword in every direction. I blocked the shots he swung at me, and lashed out with some of my own.
He wasn’t expecting me to attack, so I took him by surprise and managed to cut him across his shoulder.
Blood splattered onto his neck, and he shouted in pain.
"Hurting?" I ask, gritting my teeth and slamming my fist onto his wounded shoulder.
He screamed in pain and dropped his sword.
"Do you promise to withdraw your forces and disband the guards? To place the protection of the people back in Edward’s hands?" I demanded of him, threating to punch his shoulder again.
He nodded.
"Will you spare me?" He asked, whimpering.
I nod. He smiles, and I look down into the battle, to see my men yelling their victory cries and standing over the corpses of the guards.
"Looks like you’ve been disbanded already." I say, pulling my blade back to behead him.
"You said you would spare me!" He screams.
I smirk.
"I lied." I say silently, before cutting his head from his shoulders.
His head flies off the castle wall, landing quietly and unnoticed in the field beyond.
I walk to the edge of the castle wall, where the men left in my army stand looking up at me.
Most of David’s army survived, and all of the veterans survived, which came as a shock to me.
Edward and Kendrick walk up the stairs to me, covered in blood and tired from battle.
"Have we won?" Edward asks.
"Yes my friend, and the protection of the people has been placed back into your hands. Good luck, for you will need it." I say.
Kendrick smiles.
"We have emerged victorious once again my friends. Lets hope this will be the last of our many battles." I say, wiping the blade of my katana clean on Derrick’s armour and putting back into its sheath.
I stand there with Kendrick and Edward, my great black cape billowing behind me as the night slowly gave way to light.
