I rested in the king's tower with the rest of my vampiric troops, and while we rested there was no movement from the enemy soldiers, and when we all awoke, we took count of all the soldiers we still had left to defend the castle.
Of 1 000 knights of the Order, we had approximately 800 left. Of the 1 000 king's soldiers, approximately 650 of them were still alive. Of the 9 000 white armoured guards, approximately 8 500 were left.
We also took count of the enemy troops slain, and we had killed almost 10 000 of them in one night alone.
The bodies of the enemy soldiers were cast down into the still burning remains of the seige ladders and towers, and were burned up quickly afterwards. The bodies of the fallen king's soldiers, Order's knights and white armoured guards were given a quick burial ceremony and were buried by civilians in the catacombs underneath the king's tower.
That night, our remaining troops took to the walls, and prepared for anything that the enemy would throw their way.
The silence was incredible. We stood on the top of the wall for at least an hour before there was any enemy movement, and when it came, it came quickly.
Almost immediately out of the dark were five seige towers rushing towards the walls, and the explosive spheres rained down upon the reinforced gate of the castle.
I was surprised someone like Janet could've thought of a plan like that: their infantry distracts us away from the obvious plan to blow their way through the gate and come in that way. Once the gate was down, they'd rush in through the gate and kill everyone who stood in their way until the castle was taken.
The king's soldiers and white armoured guards shot down one of the seige towers with flaming arrows, and the Order's knights took down two of the remaining four.
The last two almost believed that they'd make it to the wall, but were also put down by flaming arrows from the united force holding along the top of the wall. That was the last of the seige towers we saw that night, and instead they came at us with ladders, as they had in the earliest phases of the battle.
The Order's knights ran out to meet a whole score of men who came screaming onto the ramparts, and the fighting became incredibly violent and brutal. The knights killed anyone who bore a sword forged with vampire killing metal, and easily battled off anyone who was not.
The king's soldiers and the white armoured guards formed into one army and protected another portion of the wall from the attackers, and the fighting became intense all along the ramparts.
I saw Inekwar fighting amongst the white armoured guards along the ramparts, and my former love was with him. The attackers in that area were killing off anything that prevented them from taking the ramparts, so I quickly rushed to help out the soldiers there.
When I arrived I was fighting almost instantly. With my stolen sword I blocked a sword blow from an enemy soldier, and beheaded him quickly with my black bladed sword.
He slumped to the ground, and I moved on to the next target and fought my way through the enemy ranks until they were driven back off of the wall. Inekwar thanked me and my former love gave me a look of admiration, but I left to fight more enemies before I had time to say anything.
The enemy began focussing their attack on the center of the wall, where the littlest amount of troops were stationed. My strike team assembled there, and were doing quite well so far.
Vincent fired off rounds into the enemy soldiers trying to get up the ladders onto the ramparts, and those who made it up were easily struck down by either Kirk, Kathleen, Quexos, Athran, or Luke.
I smiled at our small amount of success, but I knew the battle was far from over.
