He attacked first, his black bladed sword swinging darkly in the night. I brought my blade up to parry his attack. He swung hard enough that sparks shot out from the impact, and I shoved him back.
He smirked.
"Can't you feel it? The desire to just let go and destroy everything! You have the power! Make it happen!" he rasped loudly.
"NO!" I shouted and lashed out, giving in to my inner anger.
For the moment, I tasted pure rage. I lashed out again and again until I felt my energy drain from me.
My muscles sagged, and I dropped to my knees, having spent all of my energy.
"Now you'll die." he said, levelling his sword's blade with my neck.
"I'll never die." I said as he pulled his blade back.
"Oh?" he asked, arching an eyebrow.
"No. I won't die because I'm not like you!" I said. He smirked and swung his sword at me. A transparent white energy sphere surrounded me, and the black blade of his sword shattered upon it.
He looked stunned.
"I don't give in to anger." I said, standing and walking towards him.
He backed away in fear.
"I don't give in to wrath." I said, continuing to walk towards him.
He tripped and fell onto his back. I stood over him, and he looked up at me, frightened.
"And I won't betray who I am to make myself feel better." I said, a rasp coming into my voice.
I woke after that, opening my eyes to the dark, starry sky above me.
The black armoured stranger I had fought in my dreams had been my dark side. The one fighting to reveal itself to the world. The one I was trying to supress all the time.
I had been myself, my good side. The one known to the world and who still stood for his righteous cause.
I awoke that morning a different man. I had fought my demons, my dark side. I was truly the Horseman of Life now, and the power of Life is all I need to defeat the Four Horsemen.
I would face them. I would face them as the protector of the innocent and the enforcer of true justice.
