Dreamland IV - #7
In the dead of night, I charged down the slope towards our enemy’s castle. My army raced down the hill behind me, and we all yell our battle cries as we rushed towards the army of guards.
They looked surprised. They probably hadn’t expected resistance of this magnitude. With the men willing to fight from David’s small army, and the battle hardened veterans of Edwards army, we should be able to take the army of guards with no problem.
As the front of their army draws near, our battle cries get louder and louder. It is like music to me ears. The charge continues, and our armies clash.
A guard runs to me, and tries to take me out with a simple horizontal slash. I block the blow and swing my sword away, leaving his gut wide open. With a quick vertical slash, I tear a gash up his torso, and he drops dead, his white armour covered in blood.
Three guards run at me, and I manage to take one out before the other two swing their swords at me. Their swords bounce off my armour, and I shove them both off with a strong backhand. I bring my sword around with my other hand and slash them across their guts. Their innards spill out onto the battlefield as they drop.
They are replaced by several more as the battle unfolds.
I continue to cut through guards until they start to draw back. I see dawn’s first light appearing in the sky, but I take out a few more guards first. The light slowly starts to brighten, and the guards pull back to their castle.
I stand amid our army as the corpses of my men and the men of the guards’ army coat the ground.
They all pull back into the castle as the watch stands on the towers.
They probably hadn’t expected an army of farmers and older men to fight so well, and were overwhelmed by our strength.
I wipe the blade of my katana clean and put it back into its sheath as the last of the guards pull back into the castle.
My army gathers around me. I hear murmurs from within the army. Edward, Kendrick and David walk over to me, looking tired and holding bloodied swords in their hands.
"Well fought my friends. Unfortunately, they have not yet been defeated." I say. Edward nods as he wipes his blade clean on the ground and puts it back into its sheath.
"They will stay in the castle until they recuperate and regroup their forces. Then they will either stay in there and wait for us to get them, or march out to meet us." Edward says.
Kendrick nods.
"We will have to pay attention to any activity coming from the castle, until they come out to meet us." He says.
David nods, but says nothing.
"Well, I must rest. David, tend to the men. Kendrick, keep an eye on the castle, and Edward, plan out a plan of attack for the next battle." I say, and they all nod. I walk towards my horse and ride it to a dark forest nearby.
Once inside, I curl up on the side of a tree and go to sleep for the day.
