I wake up several days later, a pounding headache and a big scar on my gut. I look around the dark cave of Cervantes, as Kendrick rests nearby and Lestat watches over us from a dark corner.
I feel an odd feeling in my neck and reach up to rub the pain. I notice two punctures that were not there before.
I sit up quickly and look at Lestat.
"Why did you do that?" I ask.
"It was the only way to keep you alive." Lestat says as he steps away from the wall towards me.
I nod and stand, faster than I normally did. I frown and look around for my shirt and trench coat. I find the black t-shirt and put it on. I look around for the trench coat and Lestat hands it to me.
I take it from him and put it on. I walk towards a curtain covering a hole in the far wall and thrust it open, showering me in sunlight.
My skin crawls and starts to burn as I shelter my face with my hands and drop to my knees.
Lestat runs over to the side of the curtain and closes it quickly without hurting himself.
"You're a vampire now! Sunlight isn't good for you!" He says as I shake it off and try to stand.
I stand, and look around.
"Cervantes left I see." I say, changing the subject. Lestat nods.
"He ran off last night. I was waiting until sunset to start looking for him again." He says to me. I nod and walk towards where I had awaken several minutes before.
I sit down as Kendrick continues sleeping. I look down at my skin and see that it has paled since the last time I saw the complexion of my skin.
"What's happening to me?" I ask, looking up helplessly at Lestat. He crouches in front of me.
"You're no longer mortal my friend. You're a vampire, which means you'll be in pain for a while as your insides slowly die. Then you'll be thirsty..." Lestat explains.
I look in confusion at him.
"Thirsty for what?" I ask.
"Blood." He replies.
I feel my eyes widen as I look up at him. This is insane!
"What?" I ask.
"That's what we vampires do. And you'll do the same in time." He says, looking at me, a very serious look on his face.
"And this was the only way to save me?" I ask. He nods.
I slump back against a wall as I feel a pain begin to grow inside me.
The transformation has begun.
