I flew with all speed east that night, and arrived at the fortress of my former love, the commander and leader of the white armoured guards.
I had not seen her or my son Inekwar in some time, a mistake I hoped to redeem myself for.
I landed softly on the balcony of my former love's chambers, and frayed black cape settld around me before I started walking into her room.
Swords were hung on the wall, as was a shining suit of white armour. The edges of the plates of the white armour were lined with gold, similar to the way the plates of my armour were lined with shining steel.
I admired the swords with my hands clasped behind my back before she entered the room and stood still with her arms crossed.
"You're back?" she asked.
I turned and smiled.
"I come and go." I said.
"And you want something don't you?" she asked, turning away from me. She walked to her door and waved her arm at one of the guards, who walked off down the hall.
"Why would you think that?" I asked. She turned.
"Because every time you show up here you want something from me or my troops." she pointed out.
"Well, I will be needing your armies." I said.
"What for now?" she demanded.
"There is a vast and terrible army bearing down on the king's castle as we speak, and although the king has my Order's vampiric troops to hold the castle during the night, he lacks the human troops to hold out during the day. We need all the help we can get." I explained.
"Well, Inekwar and I are coming along to fight then." she said.
"I don't want any harm to come to either of you." I said.
"Then you shouldn't have come asking for help." She said, before walking to her armour.
I shook my head, and she told me to scurry off while she changed into her armour. I exited the room quickly and closed the wooden door behind me.
Inekwar rounded the corner as I did so, and he looked pleased to see me.
"The guards said you had come. I didn't know if they were being truthful or not." he said.
He had grown some since I had seen him last, and he fit into his white suit of armour better than he had the last time we had spoken.
"How are you?" I asked, smiling.
Inekwar then explained to me everything that had happened since the last time we met, including all of the details about women, his friends and how he had risen through the ranks of the guards to Captain. He now had a unit of one hundred men that he commanded, and they frequently went out on patrols of the area.
Although I had only known him for a short period of time, and he had grown up on only stories about me, I was proud of him, and he was happy that he knew his father.
My former love exited her room and joined us in the hall, and we walked through the corridors of the vast fortress until she arrived at the barracks of her troops.
She explained to them what their new assignment was, and they were ready to march within an hour. Dawn was nigh by the time they finished, so I told her I would rest for the day at the fortress and join up with her troops in the evening while they were on their way to the king's castle.
She agreed, and I said goodbye to Inekwar before I rested.
