We stopped only once on the way to the King's castle, using whatever weaponry we could find to hack down trees and cover all known roads with them, to hopefully slow Janet's army's advance.
Our work paid off, and it took them several days to clear away all the trees we left behind.
Using the few days we had, we returned to the King's castle, and his preparations for the eventual seige we coming along well.
Luke and the soldiers of the Order were working all through the night, while the King's soldiers worked all through the day, and the work was completed twice as fast.
They had brought all the civilians inside the safety of the King's castle, and had barricaded the main gate of the city.
Catapults were placed around the ramparts of the massive castle, and in addition to the stone turrets already on the wall, wooden ones were constructed so that more archers could defend the walls.
I myself was amazed that all of the work had been completed so quickly, and my strike team took the opportunity to rest a while before joining the other knights of the Order in preparing the castle against the eventual seige.
Luke and I joined the king in his throne room a few days after we arrived, and the king immediately began chatting to us about the coming battle.
"Has everything been completed?" the king asked, stroking his dark beard.
Luke nodded.
"All the preparations are complete." Luke reported.
The king looked at me.
"Have you slowed their advance?" he asked.
"My strike team has delayed their march by several days, however this was a few days ago. They should be arriving here within the next few days." I explained.
The king nodded.
"And then we shall fight them off." he said to himself.
I nodded slowly.
We stood in silence, and Luke turned on his heel and prepared to walk away.
"I am going to make sure the soldiers are prepared." He said.
The king nodded.
"Do you think we can win this war?" he asked me.
"I think we can pose a threat, but not win. We need more troops to hold out during the day when us vampiric troops are unable to fight." I said.
"Where do you suppose we can find such troops?" the king asked.
I thought for a moment, and I had an idea.
"I know who would lend us support, but I will have to leave now if I am to make it back here by the time the battle begins." I said.
"Then go. And hurry back." the king said.
I took off and flew away from the castle that night, knowing exactly where I could find troops.
