It had been five years since the beinning of the Vampire/Human War. The vampires left me in charge of the army after the first major battle, during which I dueled and defeated Scott Nucomm.
I led the vampire army into many victories, and we only lost one battle. That was only because I had given the command of the human troops temporarily to a human called Matthew. He, confident his troops would win, led his troops to battle, and they were slain mercilessly, and he was slain as well.
I resumed command after that, and led our vampire army to victory in two major battles, and three smaller ones.
I assigned command of our human troops to a vampire named Luke, who led his troops to victory as well. I led my army against the guard's western territory, and Luke led the fight against the eastern territory.
We pressed our attacks on, and eventually circled around what was left of the guard's territory at the end of the five years, and he gathered all that remained of his forces together and marshalled them in full strength on the Cartesian Plain, a large battlefield close to the guard's castle.
The night of the battle, I met with Luke, and we discussed a plan of attack.
He suggested taking each of our armies and charging the sides of the guard army, enveloping them and not allowing them to escape. I liked the plan, so I agreed to it and we gathered our armies on the field.
A gust blew past me and ruffled my long hair. I straightened my tunic, and Luke appeared beside me. The wind ruffled his medium length sandy brown hair. He looked at me with his blue eyes and spoke.
"My troops are ready." He said, before he looked to the enemy, who was still waiting for us on the field.
He wore a uniform identical to mine, with the black leather glove on his right hand as well. He also made a sword for himself during the War, after be broke his steel blade during a battle. He had made the blade narrow but stronger than anything on earth, with a silver hilt. When he made the blade and it cooled, it cooled with a bright green colour, that glimmered even in the dark of night.
I had done the same to my ebony blade. I had fashioned it so the blade was narrow and strong as well, and I left the hilt the way it was. Luke had taught me how to remake the blade so it was narrower and stronger, and not quite as heavy.
So he took his troops and gathered them in secret on the eastern side of the enemy, and I gathered my army on the enemy's western side, and Luke agreed he would wait to charge until I had already met the enemy in battle.
I pulled my ebony blade from its sheath and lifted it high into the air. The troops behind me shouted.
I started running across the field towards the enemy, and my army followed me. The enemy guards prepared themselves for the collision of the armies, and we collided with incredible force.
Using my blade, I cut down any guard stupid enough to come within its reach. My vampire troops, and what was left of my human troops engaged the enemy all around me, and the fighting became intense.
The battle raged on for at least a half an hour before I saw Luke's shimmering green blade among the enemy. I smiled, for I knew that the battle would be over shortly.
I cut down another guard and looked around. Mine and Luke's troops were standing around with their swords in the air shouting in victory.
I grinned. The war was over, and we had won.
I wiped my blade clean and placed it into its sheath. I looked around for Kathleen, and she was running towards me from across the field.
I grinned and hugged her fiercly when she got to me. I kissed her, and I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned and saw Luke standing there. I clapped him on the shoulder.
"We have won a great battle my friend." I said, smiling.
"We have indeed. We still have to secure the enemy fortress." he said. I nodded.
So Kathleen, Luke and I rode on horeseback to the fortress of the guards, and told their commander ourselves that the war was finished, and he agreed not to puruse vampires anymore, and that he would stay clear of us.
The war was finally over, and we could enjoy peace, and our freedom.
