When we had all rested for the day, we headed out again along the road towards the king's castle. Vincent went out ahead with Kirk and Lestat to clear the path of scouts, and they came back and told me they had killed a few.
We continued on the road, and Strycnine returned with tidings of doom.
It turns out that Janet's army had found a way across the river faster than I had expected them to, and had found another, quicker path to the king's castle than the road we were on.
"Then we have to get back to the king's castle as fast as we can." Vincent said.
"No. There's still a way we can slow them down." I said.
"How's that?" Kirk asked.
"We take whatever bows and arrows we can find and constantly hit them in their flanks and sides as they march. That should force them to slow their march in order to find and stop us." I said.
Vincent nodded.
"What if it doesn't work?" Athran asked.
"Then we get to the king's castle with all speed and hope we get there before they do." I said.
Kathleen nodded.
We set out soon after that, using the bows and arrows we had taken from fallen scouts against Janet and her army.
I scouted out the perfect place for an ambush. The road they travelled on was sunken in lower than the ground around it, which would mean that we could all fire arrows down upon them and not worry about anything.
I knew they would probably have scouts and soldier escorts along the high ground to warn the troops on the ground of anything coming, so I made it a priority to find and remove them before any ambush was to take place.
I strolled along the high ground completely hidden in darkness, and the first of several patrols was nearing my position.
I unsheathed my black bladed sword and put my bow and quiver of arrows on the ground and made a mental note of where I had left them.
I crept towards the patrol, and saw it was made of two soldiers and three scouts.
With me was Kathleen and Quexos, so I was confident we could take them out quickly and quietly.
I crept up behind them, and as one of the scouts stopped, I slid my blade into his back, through the light leather armour he wore.
I covered his mouth and slid him to the ground, and he made no noise. I did the same with another scout, and with the third right after.
Quexos and Kathleen emerged from the shadows and quickly slew the two soldiers with sword blows to the neck, quickly and effectively ending their lives in silence.
I saw the rest of my task force take up positons along the high ground and we prepared to strike.
