We arrived at the castle just before dawn, and we slept for the day, and the next night Athad came to my room and confronted me. He looked anger, but there was something about his expression I couldn't sense.
"What happened?!?" He shouted, grabbing my collar and slamming me into a wall. I angrily batted his arms aside and shoved him back.
"We were ambushed by the knights, and they killed us all. I had to fly out of there." I said, putting an angry rasp into my voice as I shouted back.
He snarled. "And who is she?!?" He demanded, pointing a finger towards Kathleen, who was lying down on my bed.
"She's mine. I found her before the raid. And if anyone touches her I'll kill them." I said, snarling as well. Athad almost laughed, and stepped into the room, heading towards Kathleen.
"She's so very pretty..." he said, standing before her. I grabbed him by the shoulder and tossed him out the doorway. He smashed into the wall across the hall and his eyes became full of anger again.
"Do you think I'm stupid enough to not know why you're here Marius?" He growled. I gritted my teeth and clenched my fists.
I drew my sword, and he drew his as well. He lunged for my chest with the tip of his sword, and I sidestepped the attack. I brought the hilt of my sword down on the base of his neck, and he fell face first to the ground.
"Run Kathleen!" I shouted, and turned around, swinging my sword as I went, cutting the two guards who were flanking Athad across the stomach. Their blood arced through the air and splattered across the white marble surface of the floor as Kathleen shoved their falling corpses from her way and ran into the hall.
She angrily kicked out at a passing guard, hitting him in the throat as he ran towards her, sword drawn.
I closed the heavy wooden door behind me before Athad could escape and joined her. I remembered the layout of the castle, and knew the shortest route to take to escape.
I took Kathleen's hand and started running, and she kept up with me the whole way through, but after a while I heard angry shouts and many footsteps behind me, and I sensed Athad and a large group of men were drawing close.
We continued running, until we reached a dead end. However, there was a small wooden trap door in the floor at the end of the hall that led downwards to an underground tunnel, that led out to the hillside around the castle. From there we could easily make our escape.
When we reached the trap door, I opened it, and Kathleen went down first. I jumped down into the tunnel behind her and slammed the wooden door closed behind me.
We ran through the tunnel until we emerged on the hillside, and the guards in the towers noticed us and started firing arrows down at us.
"Keep going and hide. If anyone finds you, kill them quickly and quietly." I said to Kathleen. She nodded and ran to a large group of trees nearby and hid among them.
I turned towards the tower and flew up to it, cutting the heads off of the archers there. Their corpses dropped, and I turned toward the other towers.
I flew to each one and killed the two guards stationed at each one before dropping to the castle.
I quickly killed the guards patrolling the roof, and infultrated the top level. Three guards ran at me, which I angrily cut down. I moved down into the second level, where the guards came in large numbers.
They came in packs of twenty or so, which I had difficulty taking down because of their vampire killer swords, but I still managed to do so.
I infiltrated the bottom level, where I was confronted by Athad and the last hundred men in the Black Shadow.
"Now you will die Marius." He said, pointing the tip of his sword at me.
