When I awoke that evening, the vast barracks and area surrounding the fortress was empty, so I assumed that the army had marched clear out of sight, and from the speed that they had left, were drawing close to the king's castle by now.
I woke fully and blasted towards the king's castle with all speed, and arrived there at approximately the same time as the army. They marched through the streets of the city and took up positions along the ramparts with the king's soldiers, and prepared for the seige as well.
I flew directly to the king's throne room, to find him there with his military council and royal advisors.
"The troops have arrived my lord." I said.
"How many troops?" the king asked.
"Nine thousand." I heard my former love call out from behind me as she entered the throne room as well.
The king nodded, and we departed from the room. I walked out onto the ramparts, where the Order's knights were positioned. I told Luke about the army that had arrived, and he said that it was a good idea.
We prepared, and Athran came running towards our position.
My former love and Inekwar stood behind me when he arrived, and Athran, despite having run a long distance, didn't look tired.
"They're here!" he said.
He didn't have to explain what that meant. We all knew that 'they' was the army bearing down upon our fortress, and we knew that the soldiers would have to be told what was going on, and that someone would have to inform the king.
"Athran, go tell the rest of the soldiers to be ready. I'll go tell the king." Luke ordered.
Athran nodded and ran away from our position, and Luke ran in the direction of the king's throne.
I turned to Inekwar and my former love.
I laid a hand on Inekwar's shoulder.
"Good luck my son. Good luck be with you both and may the gods smile on us tonight." I said.
Inekwar nodded and ran off, and so did my former love.
Kathleen appeared beside me, and hugged me fiercely.
"Athran told me what's happening." she said.
"We'll need to get down to the front lines." I said.
"Will we all survive?" she asked.
"Yes. We will all survive, and we will win. We will drive back these enemies and restore peace to Dreamland." I said.
Kathleen smiled, and I kissed her.
Together, we headed to the position along the ramparts from which the enemy was coming.
