The next night, when Kathleen and I awoke, I saw our enemy's forces gathered on the field, waiting for us to come out and fight. I strapped my sword to my side as Kathleen dressed in her armour and strapped her sword to her side as well. We walked out of the command center hand in hand, and I stopped Inekwar as I passed him.
"The battle plans are in the command center, I want you to bring those to me so I can review them with my command staff." I said. He nodded and darted into the command center to get the battle plans for me. Once he returned and gave them to me, I layed them out on a wooden table assembled in the middle of out camp, and Kirk, Lestat, Vincent, James and Edward looked it over with Kathleen and I.
I pointed to a group of marks I made on the large sheet.
"This is our army here. I'm estimating the enemy has a larger force than we do, so this is the plan." I said, looking around at everyone to make sure they were following along.
"What we'll do is arrange our forces into an army with two wings. The main bulk of the army will be made up of the troops. I'll have our vampire forces split in two and have each half take one side of the main army, forming the two wings. When their army charges towards us, we'll have the main army engage them first, and have the vampires circle around behind them and attack their flanks. The vampires will charge through their flanks unti there's nothing left of them. Got it?" I said, looking up from the plans to the staff around me.
They all nodded in unison and walked away to tell the troops the plan of attack. When word got back to me the troops were prepared, we gathered on the large, dark field in our arrangement.
Their commander, a man who was tall and slender, wearing a helmet and a black cape, didn't bother riding forward to meet us like the last one had, but instead just waited for us to gather before he made his move.
As soon as we had gathered out strength, he began hs charge. I knew we wouldn't have enough time to scrable the archers forward, so I decided to lead the charge.
I gave Kathleen command of the right vampire wing, and Vincent command of the other. I took command of the main army, and behind me was Inekwar.
His charge started, and they ran across the field screaming insults and shouting battle cries.
I pulled my black bladed sword from its sheath and held it high into the air. I shouted. Not a battle cry, not an insult, just a simple shout of anger, before I started running towards the enemy as fast as I could.
The troops followed me, as did the two wings. We ran forward in a long, thick misshapen line, and the front rank of our main army collided with them with terrible force.
I shouldered a guard when we met, and flipped him over my shoulder. He landed face first on the ground, and I turned towards him. I brought my blade crashing down on him, and it broke through his armour and instantly crushed his spine.
I turned toward the battle and stabbed out at a passing guard. The blade passed through his neck and he dropped. I pulled the blade free and slashed outwards at several passing guards. I cut the side of one wide open, and cut a light gash into the armour of the second one. I completely missed thr third one, but I got the attention of the two I hadn't killed.
I beheaded the first one that came at me, and savagely cut down the second. Blood spurted skywards and rained down around me.
I turned quickly and slashed the gut of a guard wide open, and he dropped, blood gurgling from the stomach wound and from his mouth.
I continued charging as the battle raged around me.
