Several days later, I sat crouched across the compound of the second outpost. I was hidden behind a few large bushes, completely hidden from sight. A two-man patrol walked past me, and I waited until they were out of eyeshot before sprinting across the clearing to the wall of the compound.
When I reached the wall of the outpost, I leapt clear over it and landed silently on the other side. I looked around and made sure nobody saw me before I sprinted across another clearing to the central tower of the outpost.
I found a door leading to the inside and I shoved it open. Inside was a dark corridor that led to an upwards-spiraling staircase.
I ran down the hall and started running up the staircase. I was almost at the top when I heard several guards chatting about what happened to the last outpost I attacked. They continued for a few moments, before someone who sounded important, possibly a commanding officer told them all to get back to work.
When it sounded like everyone had left, I continued my run up the staircase. I reached the top and slowly walked the rest, until I was at the top of the tower. It was a hallway that stretched the length of the upper part of the tower, with the staircase on one side of the hall, and a large office on the other.
I slowly walked towards the office, and the door to it opened. The commanding officer walked out, holding several papers in his hands. He looked up from the papers to me, and a look of shock, fear, and horror came to his face all at once.
He opened his mouth to shout something, but I booted him in the stomach and sent him flying backwards into the office. The papers flew from his hands, and they slowly floated down to the ground as the officer hit the ground and slid along it.
I walked into the office and slammed the door shut behind me. As the office stood and whimpered, I grabbed him by the collar and slammed him up against a wall.
"Why are you hunting me?!?" I growled.
"You’ve got us shit-scared! There’s no hope if we try and go up against a vampire!" He blurted out.
So their plans were to take me out and then actually go ahead with their actual plans, the ones they had in store when I was out of the way.
"What have you got planned?" I demanded. I bared my fangs as I snarled and he cringed.
"Well, we would hunt you down relentlessly and hang you outside in the sunlight or something." He said nervously.
"Not about how to kill me, about what would happen after I was eliminated!" I yelled at him. He continued to cringe into the corner.
"I wasn’t told about that. Us guards on the outposts were only to hunt you down and kill you." He said.
"So you weren’t told." I said. He nodded. I gripped his collar tighter and slammed him against the wall again.
"You’re lying!" I yelled at him. He quickly shook his head.
"No! I swear it! Only the higher-ups in the main castle know about the plans!" He said, crying.
I dropped him to the ground, and he landed hard on his back.
"Remember this. If I find out you are lying, I will come back and kill you." I said, glaring at him. There was a knock on the door.
"Sir?" I heard. I walked to the side of the door and unlocked it. An officer ran in and saw the commander lying in the corner and crying.
I closed the door and locked it. At the sound of the latch closing, the guard’s head spun around to face me.
"You!" He said, drawing his sword. I drew my katana and waited for him to attack. He charged at me, and I waited until He swung his sword at me. I ducked as it flew towards my head.
The blade of his sword became embedded in the wooden frame of the wall, and he was unable to pull it out. I stood back up straight and he pulled a dagger from his belt and slammed it into my side.
I glared at him, an evil look over my face.
"Bastard!" I shouted, and then grabbed his neck. I pulled him close and sank my fangs into his neck. I sucked the life force from him and dropped his bloodless corpse to the ground. I wiped his blood from my mouth and put my katana back into its sheath.
I pulled the dagger from my side and tossed it to the floor beside the commander.
"I won’t even have a scar from that." I said. He continued whimpering as I walked towards him.
I kneeled beside him and glared at him.
"Remember the fate of that guard. His fate will be the same as yours if I find out you were lying to me." I say. He nods nervously and continued whimpering.
I walk from the dark room, leaving a whimpering commander and a dead body lying in my wake.
