I awoke the next evening as darkness overcame the skies. I brushed some dry leaves off of my black cape and walked from the forest to where the army was camped. Edward stood watch over the camp upon the hill where the forest was, just holding his sword and watching the camp.
He looked like he hadn’t slept in days. I laid a hand on his shoulder and he spun around to face me.
"Go get some rest my friend." I said, and he turned around and walked towards his tent without saying a word.
Kendrick emerged from his tent and walked towards me, looking well rested. He rested his hand on the hilt of his sword as he walked.
"What will you do now?" He asked me.
"Well, the winter is coming, so I will have to find some sort of shelter for it and hope that nothing adventurous happens." I say, looking at him. He smiles.
"May the wind always be at your back my friend." He says before he shakes my hand and walks away.
I look around as David emerges from his tent and walks towards me as well. He sees me and walks towards me with a smile on his face.
"I have not known you very long, but me and my people have a great respect for you now. You fought for our freedom and obtained it. And for that, we thank you. Anything you need with me gladly given to you." David said with a slight bow.
I gave him a nod of respect, and felt an immense thirst for blood. I decided to wait until I was out of eyeshot of these people before I quenched my thirst.
"No problem. Whenever my aid is needed, just find me and I’ll help." I said with a grin. He still took a step back at the sight of my fangs, but he was slowly getting used to the sight.
I turned and headed for the forest and began walking through it. I got through to the outer edge of the forest and stood there as a cold breeze from the west rustled past me, blowing my cape and hair around.
I hear a twig snap behind me and spin around. A guard was walking towards me, holding a sword in his hand. He looked extremely tired and was covered in his own blood from the battle.
"And you are...?" I ask him, but he screams and brings his blade down towards me. I sidestep the attack and pull my katana from its sheath.
As he falls forward, I cut his head from his shoulders, splattering blood over the dry leaves. I bent down and sucked blood from his blood stump of a neck until my thirst was quenched.
I wiped my katana clean on his armour and wiped the blood from my face before I turned and kept walking.
I hear another twig snap behind me. I spin around with my hand on he hilt of my katana, and see something I did not expect.
"Hello Marius." Vincent said to me, his black hair covering most of his face and his red cape billowing behind him.
He hadn’t changed since the last time I saw him, or when I thought I had seen him die. He gave me a smirk and started walking towards me.
He looked down at the holster of the Cerebrus dangling from my belt.
"Can I have my gun back?" He asked, looking from the holster to my face.
I unhooked it from my belt and handed it to him.
He smiled again and hooked it onto his own belt.
"I’ve been looking for you for quite some time now Marius. You’re a difficult man to find." Vincent said, adjusting the holster so it was comfortable.
"I like being like that. Makes it more difficult for my enemies to find me." I say, taking my hand away from my katana.
"Well... shall we go?" He asks, looking down the road into the dark forest.
"Certainly." I say, starting my walk down the dark path.
We walk silently down the dark path until we disappear into the darkness of the vast forest.
