Another month had passed since my last fight with Kirk. Vincent and I wandered the desolate forest until we finally emerged back into civilization. It had taken us an entire season of winter to find our way, but I was looking forward to a nice warm bed and a shave. I had not shaven the entire season, and my beard grew long. My hair as well.
As Vincent and I neared a small village on the edge of town, we saw a guard. Not guards like the guards we had defeated many months ago, but a guard dressed in simliar armour as Edward, my friend and the new commander of the guards that patrolled this land.
As we neared the town, I feared that the guard would not recognize me, so Vincent and I snuck into the village and I slept in the basement of one of the small homes.
The next evening Vincent and I snuck out of town and started heading north, across the plains, towards the vast mountain ranges beyond the boarders of this country.
As we walked across the plains, I felt a powerful presence approaching. It wasn't approaching as fast as Kirk had a month ago, but it was approaching faster than someone walking.
I assumed the person was running, because it wasn't as fast as flying, and it wasn't slow enough to be someone walking.
"There's nowhere to hide." Vincent said aloud, seeing that my eyes were darting around looking for somewhere to hide.
"Then we'll have to wait for whoever is coming right here." I said. I didn't bother taking my katana out of its sheath, as I had no clue who was approaching.
"There's someone coming?" Vincent asked. I couldn't help but smile. I had forgotten that he couldn't sense enemies like I could.
As we stood, I saw something running quickly towards us from the distance. I smiled. I recognized the figure as soon as I could make out his facial features.
Long blonde hair, violet eyes, dressed completely in black clothes. It was the friend I had been seeking for a long time. I had finally found Lestat. Or he had found me, which would be more appropriate to the situation.
"Hello my friend." I said as he stopped in front of me. I reached out and I gave him a hearty handshake.
"Its been too long." He replied.
"It has." I replied.
He looked me over. I had trimmed my hair somewhat during the time I spent in the village, and used the blade of a knife I had found to shave away my beard. He hadn't changed a bit.
But then I felt several poweful being approaching quickly from the south. Lestat sensed it as well, and we both faced the south. I saw in the distance three flying figures. I knew almost at once it was Kirk and two other vampires who had learned how to fly.
I saw one wore a suit of armour similar to mine, and had a large red cape billowing behind him as he flew. The other wore black garments similar to Lestat's, and all three landed softly on the ground in front of us.
We all stood in silence for a moment, and Kirk stepped forward. He didn't look ready for a fight, he just stepped forward and looked at me.
I looked at the two vampires behind him. I didn't recognize one, but the other one was Edward, my old friend.
"Edward?" I asked silently.
"Yes its him Marius." Kirk said, before Edward could speak up.
"What do you want Kirk?" I asked, gritting my teeth.
"I do not wish to fight." Kirk said. I was shocked. The two other times we had met he started fighting before any communication even took place, and now he didn't want fo fight.
"What's gotten into you?" I asked.
"Edward here has informed me that humans don't trust vampires like they used to with you and Lestat. He set out to find you to warn you, when I met him and turned him into a vampire as well. So we've been on the run looking for you and Lestat." He said.
I nodded slowly. I felt a smile creep across my face.
"So you're proposing an alliance against the humans?" Lestat asked. I thought the same, and looked from Lestat to Kirk.
"Yeah. It won't do us any good to be fighting each other while fighting humans at the same time. Fighting a two front war isn't a good thing." Kirk said.
Those were the smartest words I've ever heard Kirk say. I couldn't help but agree with him. If the humans didn't like us either, we'd be screwed.
"Alright Kirk," I found myself saying, "I'm in." Kirk nodded. Lestat said he was in as well.
I heard angry shouts from behind me, and I spun around.
I saw a group of ten guards carrying torches and swords come running over the slope in the field. They dropped their torches on the ground, and gripped the hilts of their swords tightly in two hands.
I pulled my katana from its sheath, and the group charged at us. I pulled my katana from its sheath and slashed upwards at a guard as he neared me. The blade of my katana slashed right through his heavy armour, sending his blood flying into the air through the opening in his armour.
Unfortunately, the impact shattered the blade of my katana, leaving only an inch of jagged steel attached to the hilt, which I still held.
As another guard charged at me, I rammed the hilt into his forehead, feeling the inch of jagged metal break through the man's skull and kill him.
I turned and saw Kirk floating in the air, with a guard by the neck. He pitched the guard downwards as hard as he could, and the guard broke his neck on the ground and flopped over, dead.
As a guard charged at Lestat, I saw him jump kick the guard so hard in the jaw his neck snapped. Lestat's kick carried to the guard to the ground, and his head caved inward under Lestat's booted foot.
I quickly turned around and saw that the entire group of guards had been killed.
I smiled. Our first victory as allies.
