With our small victory complete, we torched the field with the fallen guard's torches, to use as a distraction for our escape. It worked like a charm.
The guards and local folk tried desperately to put out the blaze while we made good our escape and looked for a place to sleep during the day.
We succeeded, and found a small cave nearby which we put to good use. Several villagers passed by the following night, and I had an incredible thirst for blood, so I raided the small group and drank my fill.
I ditched my armour that night as well. I laid it down on a rock formation in the cave, and stole the clothes from my latest victim.
The clothes were almost uniform like. Black pants, black collared tunic, black leather belt with a shiny steel square belt buckle, and high leather boots. The victim also wore a black leather glove on his right hand, which I also took.
The uniform was also form fitting, so it fit ever curve of my body pefectly. I flexed my right hand, adjusting to the feel of the glove.
"Impressive." Lestat said, looking me over in my new outfit. He wore something similar, except with low cut leather boots and no glove on his right hand. He didn't have the collar on his tunic either.
"Thank you. I thought it was time for a change." I said.We stood in silence for a moment, before the other vampires in our alliance came into the same cave chamber as Lestat and I.
"Nice look." I heard Kirk say. Kirk had donned black garments similar to Lestat's, but also wore his long black trench coat. Edward still donned his armour, and the other vampire, who's name I had found out to be James, wore garments unlike the others.
He wore a dark blue tunic, black trousers and high leather boots like mind. At his side was his old sword. Edward still wore his sword as well, and it was strapped to his side. I had broken my katana and was unable to fix it, so Lestat, Kirk and I were weaponless.
Kirk discussed his plan to recruit other vampires to our alliance, and we all agreed. We split up and went off in several directions, each looking the land over for vampires.
As I searched I came across a tall dark stoned building several days after the beginning of my search. I felt a presence inside, although its life was fading fast.
I shoved open the wooden door on the front of the building, catching the glances of many guards in the room, which were the guards who hated us vampires.
They all charged at me, about ten in all. I swung my arm, catching one under the jaw and sending him reeling backwards. I snatched his sword from his hand and quickly cut down the second one.
I swung the sword hard into the neck of the third one, cutting his head from his shoulders and sending it flying across the room. I stabbed out at the fourth one, piercing his armour and running him completely through with its blade. The blade's tip pushed through his armoured back, and I quickly wrenched the blade free.
I easily cut down the fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth guard, but the last one was trying my patience.
I grabbed his shoulder tightly and held him so he wouldn't move. I brought the blade up and crashing down hard on the base of his neck. The blade continued forward through armour and flesh until it became wedged in place. I sipped at the blood flowing from the wound, and dropped his corpse to the ground.
I continued forward, and saw a vampire strung out on a long wooden table. Above him was a large skylight.
"Help me..." He said.
I broke the iron shackles holding him in place with my hands, and tried to help him off of the table. He refused to move, and just lay still.
"Do you see that scabbard over there?" the vampire said, pointing towards a long black scabbard lying on the ground near the pile of dead guards.
"Yes." I replied.
"It is mine, bring it to me." he said, his arm falling. I quickly retrieved the sword in scabbard, and brought it to him.
He unsheathed it, and I saw its blade was as black as night, as was its hilt. Encrusted in its hilt were blood red rubies, which glimmered in the faint lighting of the room.
"This is an ebony blade...after I die carry it with you and use it as your own, as a thanks for saving my life." he said.
I took the blade and scabbard from him without question. I strapped the sheath to my side and placed the black bladed sword into it.
"You'd better find somewhere to rest. The sun will be rising shortly." he said. I nodded and found a staircase that led down. After reaching my destination: a large empty room, i layed down in the corner and rested for the day.
When I awoke in the evening, I rushed upstairs, and saw the old vampire lying dead on the wooden table. The sunlight had come in the skylight and roasted him alive where he lay.
I did not mourn for him because I didn't know who he was, but left quickly, armed with a new blade and a will to find more vampires before the humans could continue killing us like the vampire who gave me his sword had been killed.
