I'd rather be writing

~~~~~ We went back to our room, each of us pacing around restlessly. No one said anything, or looked at another, or even breathed too loudly. Through the walls I could hear the dulled humming of the air autos, their sound perpetual, their destinations endless. I always wondered where all those autos were going. They went by so fast, surely they had a speficic place in mind. But how did they know it? How did they know to be at such in such a place at such in such a time? I had asked Fallen about the atuos once. I asked him where he thought they were all going. He said that most of them were going home or to work, depending on the time of day. And the others? I had asked. Errands, he supposed, but didn’t really know. Where were all those autos going? ~~~~~ Today was a pretty good day, ironically. My family and I spent 6-8 hours taking down all our x-mas decorations and putting up our regular stuff. I got to hear my dad curse as we fought with our fake tree to stuff it in the box- I got a battle wound from that, a nice bump on my leg from the end of the tree. Don't ask. My parents have a way of making simple things difficult. For instance, my mome was shifting some things on the big shelves in our garage so we could put up the boxes of deocations. She was trying to move a basket that was blockaded be two boxes on either side and a 2x4 in front of it (holding up the shelf). She kept wedging it around to fit it through when it obviously wouldn't fit. I, laughing at the situation, finally got her to give up and let me do it. I turned the basket on its side, lifting the handle on top of a box, and easily removed it. She kind of stood there for a moment and then we both laughed. She really is a funny lady sometimes. That little clip in the beginning is a short paragraph out of my scifi novel. It was very hard to find a single paragraph to pull, but there you go. I have to confess, I got the that idea from Catcher in the Rye; "Where do the ducks go?" Beautiful concept. Fits the character wonderfully. Anyway, I'm up to page 39 right now (no, not 40, 39). Progress has been slow with all the editing I've been doing, but that's alright. I need to edit. The ideas come too quickly for a perfect first draught and no writer ever prints a first draught. The only problem with me writing is that I'm not reading...damn Sound the Fury...I'm going to be in trouble if I don't read a ton before Monday...guess I have plans for this weekend. A date with a book. How romantic. Carrie
