A decade of Harry Potter

Ten years ago Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone appeared in bookstores across the world and the spell that would transform technology consumed children into eager and compulsive readers was cast. On the eve of the newest (and final) book's release, Harry Potter fans across the world attended exquisite and elaborate midnight parties at bookstores, dressed as their favorite characters from the series and itching with excitement to get their hands on the latest book. They sign up for a copy far in advance, count down the days till its release, wait in line with hundreds of others so that at the stroke of midnight, they can posses the precious book of magic. From the moment the book passes from the hands of the bookseller to its avid reader, there will be little reprieve from its pages. Across the world, lines of the story echo in hundreds of languages, as millions of eyes read over the same pages at once. Somewhere, someone has probably just read the last line, turned over the last page, and hugged the book to their chest with a heavy sigh as they begin to cry. I guarantee, readers will cry. And it has nothing to do with who will die. We're saying goodbye to the series that has kept us involved and passionate for ten years. Many of us have emerged from childhood and into adulthood, but our attitude towards Harry Potter has not changed. Indeed, I read now with the same fervid excitement and vivid imagination as I had the first time Harry Potter stole my heart and I feel eleven again. I will be very sad when it's all over, when there are no more pages to read, no more book releases to count down to, no more. It's bitter sweet to sit down and read, anxious to know the ending, but at the same time wanting to delay it as long as possible. After all, the magical world of witches and wizards and seven stories centering around our beloved characters has made it all so real. We've learned wizard history, magical treats, wizarding games, families, spells, and the darkest and deepest of secrets. But perhaps the best thing that arose from Harry Potter, was the strongest, most wonderful spell ever cast. The spell that reignited the passion for books.
