Once upon a time in Heaven
I saw a little girl
She was bent over the clouds
And her tears were falling to the ground as rain
That’s my friend,
She whispered
And her eyes filled with glee
She was always there for me
And then one day
She forgot me and left
The sky was cold, my heart bereft
There’s so much that I wished to say
I cried at night:
Please stay, please stay
And every step she took away I tried to take
She didn’t want me there
She shut me out
And closed the door
She came to my funeral, though
And on my coffin she laid a rose
And on her cheek and eyes and nose
There were tears
Tears for me
And up in heaven I sobbed too
As she flung herself across my body
The people stared
Then they joined in the crying too
Who knew, they asked, who knew, who knew?
That one selfless little girl
Could love and forgive someone
As blind as you?
Who knew, I wailed, Who knew, who knew?
That all along
She loved me too?
