unbated breath

Word of the Day: adsciticious JD's mom is doing really well after her surgery. We went up there yesterday and saw her in the ICU, but right after we saw here she was moved to a regular room. We stayed with JD's Aunt Jean at the Holiday Inn that was nearby, us, Jean, and Laura and her husband Kevin. We slept on the pullout couch because I wanted to be in the same room as Patrick, and now I know what people who have to sleep on those in our hotel are talking about when they say they're uncomfortable. We went to the hospital this morning to say hi to her and then left for home. They say she'll be in the hospital for a week or so and then she's planning on staying with one of her friends' mother in Houston for the rest of her recovery time so she can be close to the hospital. Which is fine with me. Any road, after she recovers from this surgery, she's going right back in for another, similar surgery to replace or unblock the arteries in her shoulders or neck, I don't remember which set. And then she'll have another six to eight week recovery time. So all in all, JD, Parick and I will have the house to ourselves for about four months. See, the thing that's bothering me is that we keep getting unpaid bills. We got a letter on Wednesday saying if they don't get so much money that's past due, they're cutting off our electricity. And the problem with this is that JD's mother told us she paid the electric bill. So if she didn't pay the electric bill, what happened to the money? People are saying to us, 'Oh, you shouldn't worry about this now, she could die, blah, blah, blah,' and I'm all like, 'Well, we're the ones who have to deal with all this shit and not you, so I'll worry about this when I damn well please, thank you very much.' Besides, she's not in any sort of risk for dying anymore, not unless something horrible and out of the blue goes on, and I'm the one who needs electricity for my house and food for my son. You'd think that if she were going off to have a possibly fatal surgery, she'd have her affairs in order just in case. Or, should I say, I thought. I thought wrong. I'm going to be in a bad mood for the next couple of days, I'm sure. Forgive me.

Surgery or not, I'm with you. I'd be pissed/worried about someome who left unpaid bills for me and my family do deal with as well! I hope you get everything figured out soon!

Love,
Kate
I'm really surprised. You're coming off sounding extremely selfish. I'm sure you have your resons, but still...

I don't think you're being selfish at all. I know she is gravely ill, and I also know you and JD obviously care about her greatly and want her to get through it, but she wasn't forthcoming about much at all (her surgery arrangements, the bills, etc), so you have a reason to be upset. if you ask me!
wow, I hadn't read your site in a while- talk about news!
and what a mama you are! getting all protective and defensive about electricity for your son ;). very cute.

It'll be hard when she moves back in. but at least you and JD get a taste of what life will be like later, right?

miss you hun

also, ahem PICTURES.
thanks;)
I was just looking at a bunch of pictures from the latest Rome semester this morning. I think it's dangerous to do so when I'm so suceptable (sp?) to

to nostalgia right now, having just moved and missing UD and all that. But the fact remains that those were happy golden days;
