all in all

Word of the Day: orthography Well, I did say I decided to read. I'm done with the Harry Potter books. JD got me HBP for Christmas. Gah, now I have to wait for the seventh. Although it's a good thing I got into this thing at the very end so that all I have to do is wait for the seventh one instead of waiting for every single one to come out. That would have made me really angry. Any road, Christmas was good. Patrick and Ethan and Evan [our newphews] had a good enough time, I guess. It wasn't as fun as I thought it'd be because Patrick wasn't into it like I imagined him to be. He wouldn't do anything but take bows off the presents, even his cousins', and then he didn't care about his toys at all. But JD and I and Patrick got to spend a lot of time together [JD and I both had the weekend off]. Boxing Day we went to Austin to see JD's Uncles Dale and Dave. That was a really lame day. All I really wanted to do was take a nap, but people came over and we were all obliged to go sit out by the pool and listen to old people talk about weird band names and beer. Idiots. All in all, it was a waste of a day. Dave isn't even as cool and JD said he was. Speaking of Boxing Day, that was the day Jeff quit for real. Actually, he told Cong he was quitting, but then Cong fired him so that he would get unemployment because Cong's a good man. I wasn't sure if he really quit or what, but yeah, he's gone. So sad. And what sucked was that it was right in the middle of our training and things for Opera. JD and I were also both off for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, but we still didn't do anything. We went out and bought some alcohol [a bottle of Asti Spumanti, a bottle of Smirnoff Apple Martini, and a bottle of Skyy Vodka] and orange juice, drank a little bit, and went to bed at eleven. How fun. Yesterday [and apparently today] they were doing to switchover from Encore to Opera. They did it yesterday or last night or whatever, but today there were all sorts of installers and configurators in the accounting office doing crap. The server's right behind my desk, so after I did most of what I had to do, I got kicked off my desk. Which was fine because Cong took us out for a two hour lunch, and then we hung out in the bar with Jeff [who was there to help Cong with something] for another hour, then we just hung around. It didn't look like those dudes were getting done anytime this afternoon, so I left early because [hate myself as I do for it] I'm the kind of person who likes to work if she's at work and on the clock. But it was a nice day. We're going to Austin on Friday for Laurel's wedding. We got her gifts and Patrick's outfit, though JD and I don't know what we're wearing. I'm pretty excited, though. Those two are so cute. Another of my friend from high school got married on Saturday, New Year's Eve. I think that's dumb, getting married on a holiday. My mother said she had heard she was really considering eloping twice, but I'm sure she thought about her insane mother and how she'd flip out and decided against it. I guess to some people it's hard to face, everyone starting to get married and stuff. But for me, pft. Next week Kim's coming to visit for a couple of days. I'm excited about this as well. I know how much she likes little kids, so I think I'll be guarding Patrick closely to make sure she doesn't take him home with her. I don't have any plans, as if there's anything to do in Victoria anyways, other than hanging out here at home. But I'll be glad of her company, that's for sure. Patrick is thisthisclose to walking. He'll walk around without a problem holding on to someone's finger or hand, but he'll only take about a step, maybe two, before getting either scared or surprised and falling down. But I can tell he really wants to walk, he just doesn't have balance. And since he doesn't have balance, he falls and hurts himself a whole lot. This afternoon, for example, I hear him fall in his room [I was in our room taking my jewely off or something] and start wailing. When I went to check on him, there looked like nothing was wrong. After a minute or so of playing, however, I noticed there was blood on his top teeth. I couldn't ever figure out what was bleeding, he wouldn't stay still for it, but I was able to make it stop before he went to have a nap. He's had a bump on his head for about three weeks now, never in the same place but always somewhere on his head, but this was the worst so far. Well, there was that time he jammed his nose on the windowsill and it started bleeding and that time the mirror fell and shattered on him, but I'm talking about his travails in walking. How did my brain come up with 'travail'? Where the hell have I read that? Last but not least, the second season of 'Lost' starts up on Wednesday. JD got me the other thing I asked for for Christmas, the first season DVD of 'Lost'. I'm watching it all before the season starts up again. That's my new task.
