Word of the Day: spiel
Happy First Day of the 2006 World Cup.
Thursday all the old people with the old cars came. At the beginning of the day, we were oversold twenty rooms, and thanks to cancellations and getting rooms out of DNR, we wound up being all right for the night. Everything went all right when I was there; there was only one, maybe two, folks who were angry because they didn't get what they wanted, and a few people went elsewhere. I asked Monica how it went after three, and she said surprisingly well. Today went smoothly despite the phones ringing like crazy. They're all checking out Sunday, but thankfully I have a day away from them to recover slightly.
I'm watching a show about the construction of Renaissance cathedrials. They talked about Haiga Sophia in Istanbul [or Constantinople, whatever it is now], and now they're talking about Notre Dame in Paris. It always amazes me seeing medieval/Renaissance architecture and churches, how they made something that huge and percise [and lasting] with shovels and ropes, how politics and rivalries and religion factored so heavily in placement and style and size. It's just so cool.
I have a huge headache. I think I'm going to finish watching my program while going to sleep. Benefit: I shall be quite rested for the three football games I plan on watching tomorrow. Go England and Argentina!
Also, we learned about the Hagia Sophia in history last year. I remember nothing and I hated that class.
