Word of the Day: warison
Holy crap, it's been two months.
It hasn't even felt like two months. There's nothing much that's been going on, but I'll try to dig deep into my brain and remember...
Right, I remember I was very excited about my sweater I was making. It turned out to be slightly a disaster. It fits, I guess, but not the way I wanted it to. I wanted it to be closer fitting, but it's entirely too baggy and loose. Either I overestimated my fatness, or it grew during the blocking process [getting the thing wet, shaping it and drying it]. It looks so beautiful lying on the bed, but when it gets on me I don't like it all that much. I'll chalk it up to learning since it was my first real sweater. Any road, after I finished my sweater, I've made a few other sundries--a sweater for Patrick, a pair of mismatched socks [I tried two different meathods of making socks], a pencil case for my new, very much smaller purse, a very small, scarfish version of this, and I'm working on a brain slug for a surprise for JD for Halloween. I'm trying to do as much as I can before Thursday because, as you might remember, I'm extremely excited about NaNoWriMo this year. More on that later.
As far as knitting goes, I recently discovered that I've been mixing knitting styles. There are two different stitches in knitting, the knit and the purl. I knit correctly as far as the most common styles goes, but I purl incorrectly, which results in twisted stitches in certain situations. I was all like, 'Wha?!?!?' because I never noticed any difference. I was just reading around and discovered this. So, I did a little testing and realized that I couldn't purl the correct way for the way I knit [for some reason, my hands just don't like moving that way], but I could correct my weird purling by knitting a different way. I experimented with one of the socks I made, doing one part the way I ususally knit and another part the new way. Even before I was to the second part, I could tell the stiches were twisted. I have no idea why I never caught that before, the things have been looking less wonky now that I've straightened out my stitches.
I've pretty much not been doing anything else on the internet other than poking around for knitting information and reading manga, mainly at work. I've been trying to spend more time with Patrick when I'm home with him. He's starting to want to help make lunch and JD's lunch and breakfast. He's not so good at picking up, but he's awesome at making messes. Also, we got him some number and letter flashcards, and he's always asking to play with his cards [or his block, which is actually JD's Rubrix cube]. He tells stories that are pretty involved and usually contain referance to some Playhose Disney characters. He's counting and knows the alphabet after Q [I don't know what happened to the rest of it]. He's thisclose to being seriously potty trained. He's sooooo excited about Halloween, he's been talking about trick or treating for three weeks now. He's going to be a UPS man.
JD finally stopped playing World of Warcraft. I was so happy I could have danced around the house, but I didn't. He said it was getting boring for him, and after two and a half years it should. Any road, he's gotten into disc golf. He's not able to play a lot seeing as we only have one car and the last time he tried to play with Patrick when I was at work, Patrick ran into the pond in the park. However, we've gone all together to the park a couple of time, and JD's gone golfing and Patrick and I have played at the playground. This hobby of his, unlike so many other ones he's tried, is good for the all of us. He says it's a lot of fun, and I'm so happy he's getting out of the house and having fun instead of sitting in front of a computer all the time.
Our anniversary is next Sunday, and we've already exchanged gifts. I gave him a list of a few books and yarns that he could get me for either the anniversary of Christmas, and I had him do the same for me. He got me The Dark is Rising Sequence, and I got him a few disks and a bag to carry them all. We can't ever hold out until the actual day, but we always give our gifts early. We have been married three years, which is awesome. We've done so much in those three years, I'm so proud of us.
So, yes, I'm very excited about NaNoWriMo. I've been doing real research for my characters' backgrounds, and I was even so bored at work yesterday that I started drawing them out with my extremely primative skills. I've been trying not to think about everything too deeply because I don't want to get tired of the story and wind up not writing it. I'll need lots of support and encouragement, and also Halloween candy and Pepsi. I'll probably not be updating for perhaps another month, but this time I'll really have an excuse [spending every peaceful second I can trying to make my word count]. If anyone else is participating, let me know and we can be NaNofriends.
Just letting y'all know I'm not dead yet.
