Word of the Day: upbraid
Today when we checked the mail, there was something from JD's mom's bank. We decided to open it, because we knew it to be a copy of a check that was written. So we opened it and discovered it was a hot check she wrote for the rent. The bank covered it with the overdraft protection, but the account's at a negative. Needless to say, we called Laura [who was, once again, left 'in charge' of her money] and told her and found out that no other bill had been paid. JD's been asking her if she needed help paying the bills, if she needed money, and she kept telling him no, she was fine, no, she had it covered. Laura came over and showed us a paper with the bills written out, how much was owed and due dates [some of which have passed] and gave us her mother's checkbook and other financial documents [the life insurance information, etc]. After she left, I told JD only half jokingly that we should pay what we needed to to keep the house running and not her cell phone bill, her credit card bill, and her loan she [for some reason] took out. I mean, isn't that supposed to be us? The irresponsible, clueless young folk? It's shameful, absolutely shameful. I wouldn't be able to even let my finances fall into such ruin. JD said that if we ever get this bad, he's going to walk out in front of a bus so that I can get the life insurance on him. I told him it wouldn't be necessary becuase I wouldn't let that happen.
So I just got finished writing checks out for various and sundry household and personal bills of hers. I don't mind paying any bill that pertains to living, but it's rediculous that I'm paying her credit card bill. There's supposed to be a check coming from Aflak or somewhere next week [which was supposed to be here last week, I guess that's what she was (literally) banking on], so we'll get paid back. However, what makes me most angry is that she said not a word to me, to Laura, to JD. JD was so furious when we opened that envelope from her bank because he had asked her and asked her. I don't understand why she can't tell us things when we are in the position to help [aka when we have money and she doesn't]. I understand that she's proud and stubborn, but if she were so proud, I'd think that she'd take care of things and not let them fall into disrepair.
This whole ordeal with the finances [with the surgery, I really could care less] makes my stomach ache. I'm going to bed, disguested.
