Word of the Day: pastiche
Man, this keyboard sucks bad.
So I'm in the hospital still after having Patrick yesterday at 1:03 pm. It was...uhm...interesting, to say the least. I had a urinary tract infection which apparantly led to the early labor. They antibioticed me up all night and tried to keep the pain away, but that didn't work at all. Yesterday morning when the doctor [yes, Dr. San Miguel] checked me, I was at four centimeters and all the way effaced. They moved me to the labor and delivery suite around eight-thirty or nine yesterday morning when they strapped me up to the moniters and stuff, gave me more antibiotics for the infection and shot me up with something that drove the burning away for a little while. The nurse had said, after she gave me that shot, that when I started to feel more pain to let her know and she'd check me again and if I'd dialated more she's get me an epidural. So the stuff wore off and I told her it was bad pain [because it was not only pain from the contractions, but it was also the burning from the infections on top of all that], and so she checked me, determined I was at five centimeters [all the way effaced with the baby at station -4], and sent off for the epidural. Which didn't make it. About half an hour or so after she checked me [my time is sort of messed up, I had other things on which to concentrate], my water broke, and the baby came down to nearly crown with one contraction. So JD ran out to get the nurse, who brought more nurses, who all kept telling me to 'blow teacups' or something to that effect, which I thought was silly indeed. Needless to say, we were ready before the doctor, and Baby kindly said 'Screw you' to Dr. San Miguel and was delievered by the nurses. The doctor showed up to deliver the placenta and that's about all she was good for, which is fine with me. Then they cleaned Baby up [I suppose I should stop calling him Baby and start calling him Patrick], let us hold him for a minute, and then took him to the nursery to watch him [because of the five weeks early business and the infection business]. He was 5 pounds, 3 ounces, 18.5 inches long. He's in the NICU, on antibiotics for the infection he might have and in a warming crib because he's too small to keep his temperature stable, and they did all sorts of tests and things just to be sure. The neonatal pediatrician talked to us this morning and told us he thought Patrick was going to be all right afer all his antiobiotics have been taken. He said he should be coming home in about five days, which is fine--that'll give us time to get things straight at home. Silly boy, coming too early. We weren't ready.
I'm doing well other than being sore in places, which is understandable. I think I'm going to take a nap before they come at two to give me my last round of antibiotics, and after that I believe I'll be able to go home and get things ready for Patrick. JD's also doing well. He's going to work today, and I told him to make everyone treat him nicely. We're both so happy and so proud of each other and our little boy, who's doing so well. He's not one of the cute little babies you see on the commercials or magazine ads, but he's beautiful because he's ours and he's all right.
good luck with the little one. = ]
