Word of the Day: copacetic
--local news station sucks at reporting.
Have I ever said how much I love Stargate SG-1? Maybe? Well, LOVE.
They counted twenty three rooms that are occupied by hurricane victims. There are over two hundred in the Victoria area, if not more. The other day was one girl's seventeenth birthday. Jeff had the very kind-hearted idea to throw her a little party, give her a cake, just something small given by the staff. And then somehow her parents told this pastor and then the pastor called the fracking news station, and Jeff's small gesture turned into this whole disaster. He said yesterday he called Adrian, who was in Houston getting some manager credits, to tell him about all of it, how big it had gotten, and he said Adrian just laughed at him. Any road, so this all went down last night, on the news and all. And what a crappy news story it was. I mean, they didn't even say, except in a caption that I didn't even notice, that they were at the Holiday Inn. They edited out the part where Jeff thanked all the people and businesses that donated things and all the folks who gave gifts. I mean, they did a better job with our Fly High story. Holy crap, was it ever horrible. I would much rather have not had it go that far than to trust Newscenter 25 to truthfully tell a story.
Apart from that, people are donating all sorts of stuff left and right, to the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, the food bank, etc. et. al. Some of the kids started school today here. It's amazing how when something like this happens, everyone is so generous, kind, and beautiful to other people. I wonder why people aren't like that all the time. We have an envelope at work to donate money for soap and toothbrushes and toiletries and suchwise necessities. I will, of course, give money I don't have. I'm just glad whatever's given in Victoria will help the people who've come to Victoria.
I can't watch the news. It's all about the hurricane, and I'm not immersing myself in that. That's all my mother-in-law does, watch CNN or Fox News. I don't see how she can stand it.
So we're definitely moving on the twenty-fifth. In three weeks. It's an even smaller place than this is, which will force us to get rid of some of our crap. That's never a bad thing. I'm excited about moving because it means a new beginning of sorts. And that's also never a bad thing.
youre right about the giving, but ive also seen so many cynics that refuse to give anything because they arent sure itll get to anyone.
doyou like your mother-in-law?whats she like? i wonder but you rarely mention her so i havent asked.
last night scott and i went out for friday night dinner and i saw this guy that looked JUST like JD. except he had light brown hair. otherwise, they looked so alike.
thats all. it made me think of you.
Good luck with the move.
And there should be a monthly picture update soon, right?
:-)
that's nice about the birthday party, even if it was a news fiasco, i'm sure she enjoyed it. :)
